This thing just gets worse and worse. I log in after less than a couple of weeks to make sure the game is up to date and now it is repairing itself again and it looks to me like its completely reinstalling the game. Its been going for ages and its still 4% with 24 hours to go. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. This game seriously is history. I can't even leave the game for a week before it gets crippled again... AND I WASN'T EVEN PLAYING.

My bad for trying to log on. Like I'm gonna wait a day for an update every time this game sneezes. What is wrong with you people.

Way to go with the forum icon by the way. Had no idea who MA was for a moment there. Didn't help.

PS Half an hour in and just 6% and an estimated 22 hours and 43 minutes. So funny.

EDIT: I decided to leave it running this morning and it seriously appears to be either checking every individual file or updating every single file. Sorry but not every body has fibre high fast internet and super powered computers. No idea what they expect these days. They are just alienating a whole load of ordinary players that just enjoyed this game but are being dumped cus of incredibly bad games design. The game isn't any different to what it was. There isn't anything new about this thing. Only thing that has changed is that I have to now keep going through this nightmare just to play. Please will you tell these developers to stop it already. Never mind.

OK Been running for hours and just 18% and still 18 hours to go. You call that progress. I call it bonkers. They haven't got a clue. Hardly encourages me to play this game. Like ever. And there is no guarantee it will be working when its done anyway.

Let's not forget that this is a free to play game for the most part. The problem of games that are developed by one company and published by another is that as long as the game developer makes a game that enables shop sales and ingame transactions that make money they are hardly going to trouble themselves over a small percentage of the player base. This isn't Eve Online where the game developer has an active interest in their community or say World of Wracraft where development and subs go hand in hand.

The game first feeds publishers and not any community. The publisher has no say or control over the game other than maintaining their cash flow from the product. There will have been a monitoring of losses since the patch was launched and so as long as this fits within their business plan then they will just ignore the moans of players having problems, knowing eventually they will go away. Technical support for this game is limited cus they have very little control over anything from a publishing point of view. Best they can do is report the problem. BUT the developer is hardly going make an exception for a few hundred players having probs around the world.

Gameforge are also eyeing the NA market now so will probably be able supplement any losses.

There will be no magical resolution of this problem. Users will have to work out how to sort it out for themselves if they want to play. Anyone with a problem will have to rely on friendly players to help them sort it out. Two things should have been clearly stated before this patch was launched and that was players with older installations on the lower end of spec should have been told to reinstall the game fresh from the getgo. Also that the game really needs 16GB of memory to work at all.

One last thing worth noting and that is Blizzard carry out a full system check on your computer before you even can install any patch or expansion and advise of any issues. I know this cus my graphics card just about meets their requirments and they advise me of such. Instead of posting a DXDiag to a group of technical folk that have no control over the development of the game, why didn't the developer themself write a short program that checked the end users system before the game was updated. The process was running as REPAIR and VERIFYING.... it did neither. It just updated selected files. That is an UPDATE.

I really must go now. I have stopped playing the game. I can't anyway and in truth it feels like a blessing to be honest. They were probably doing me a favour. Everything happen for a reason.

Don't know where your game file is but there maybe an issue with accessing the Windows directory at the same time as running the game for the first time. I discovered this to be a big problem in the very early days of the game and actually got a thankyou from the Tera technical team when I gave my solution. If you have the Tera game in the X86 folder or on the Operating System C drive then remove using the uninstall from the drop down in the Gameforge client. Then delete or move the folder if you want a back up. Then most important reboot the computer and then uninstall Gameforge from your system. Next install Gameforge. Create a folder on another partition on your drive ie D drive and install the game there. Not the OS drive or in the Windows X86 folder.

That worked for me in the end. But sadly I can't play the game as I haven't 16GB of RAM.

This patch has been very badly implemented and they must have understood the problems is was going to cause with 8GB memory and Win7. The developers and publisher no doubt factored in the drop off rate of some players who may not have the finacial resources nor the technical ability to resolve both the patching issues and the technical issues. No real help has been provided and this thread receives no formal point of discussion from the publisher. And the reason is cus the small number it affects is already a loss they are willing to take.

My advice to the publisher is you really could do with improving your communication skills. Also it is worth making the point to the developer that every user is important. Especially when content generally for this game is so poor for your average user. Those casual players with poor systems could be just the kind of players that take up a sub or buy from the store. You lose all that opportunity by dumping them. Plenty of free to play games out there at the moment and I don't see them turning their backs on players like me.

Not a problem. The patch booted me out and expects me to upgrade and tweak and reinstall and get a different OS etc etc. Its easier just playing something else.

Thanks for the tip and I'm sure it will help others. I do appreciate all the advice. I am with it now in terms of what is needed to improve matters. But I'm gonna take a rain check.

    Does matter

you linked old recommended vs new recommended.

However, the old recommended is the new minimum (8gb)
    Take a look at steam

What matters to me sadly is that I can't play the game with my current kit. Interestingly I was just standing in the auction house in Orgrimmar in another well known MMO and my load with a packed AH was 60% and CPU at just 10%. I never lag in Warcraft and its the 64Bit version. It always tells me I need to upgrade my video card but always lets me in. This game went from playable to not playable with zero extra content to make it worth getting a new machine. So something had to give. I know when I'm beaten so 'game over'.

PS The problem for the game is its just about playable if you never come into contact with another player. Sadly the minute any other player arrives the game crawls to a standstill, the images stutter, players appear as grey blobs and worse the floor is likely to open up. And then my computer goes into melt down with the noise of the fans. It takes forever for it to unload when I come out and worse, when I try to close the computer down it just hangs there forever. And you can't ever run the Gameforge client cus no matter how you close it there are processes that you cannot force close without switching the computer off. Never mind. Like I say, plenty other games to play that don't cripple my computer. I'm not using a new computer just for Tera.

All the best. Have fun. I'll miss you all.

Sry mate, i have an i7 random cpu - 64bit too, my graphic card is random 4 year old model. Comparing with u i just have 16gb ram. Seems like there is something wrong with your computer.

I dont even come above 40% CPU usage. Game is running very smooth since the patch.

I didnt have any mods on my tera, didnt even changed one letter in the config.

The game is working very good atm on healthy computers. I dont have game based lags, no crashes or graphic bugs. Even the grey people in highwatch are gone after a few seconds.

Which bit of 8GB RAM didn't you read. My system is floored the minute the game pops. My system resources clock over 95% now and so pulls in the hard drives which go into melt down. My graphics card is a NVidia GeForce GTX 460. Sadly I just can't use Tera. I could before but not now. And yet I can run Motherload in BfA with no such problems. The game isn't working for me now and the only thing that changed was the patch. I would say it needs the 16GB now to play and so a lot of older kit that enjoyed the game wont be able to run it.

PS My 64Bit i7 has been in service since Feb 2011 and I was playing Tera at launch, along with WoW, SWToR, Rift, Archeage, Guildwars 1 and 2, Eve and Star Trek. I was even playing Archeage from EU on the NA server and I didn't get these problems. Only problem I have had is Archeage burning out my NVidia. Anyhoo I'm playing BnS and LoL now and trying out BDO and all seems to be working fine. There is no way I can play Tera, no matter what you say.

Lmao, before patch my graphic settings were lowest possible to play smooth pvp. After patch i play with maximum graphic, even in cs no lags. My eyes just bleeding from these many colors now.

Before patch I could visit Highwatch and trade with broker and use the bank. I could venture outside without the floor vanishing. In Exodor I could see the ground cover and enjoy the environment without a grey mist over the whole screen. Before I could interact with other players without my game crawling to a standstill and everyone appearing as a grey blob. Now my computer runs at over 95 resources spent and my operating system is asking me if I want to change my windows theme to save reseources. Now the GPU is burning a hole in the side of the case. It takes many minutes for the game to finally kick out and for the fans to halt from melt down. Last night I gave up cus my inventory didn't show at all. I couldn't even use the bank let alone exchange items I had won for things.

The game ran before. It doesn't anymore for me. I have accepted that my Win7 i7 64Bit with just 8GB memory can no longer run this game. I'm not about to tax the system. I've tried everything to improve matters but sadly the computer is just being overloaded and its worth more to me than a game. I may come back when I move over to a better system, but for now I have to leave this game alone. Its killing my computer.

PS I don't expect the latest MMOs to work on this computer. That's why you invest in better kit so you can play the later games. But come on, I was playing this game just after launch and the game isn't any different from what it was then. The only graphical change that I see is a strange glow from some spells and I go blue when I launch my awakening spells. Everything after that is like walking through the treacle that I did use to be able to skip through. The patch killed Tera for me.... Summary. Slow download. Failed to patch forcing reinstall. Crawls along gobbling my resources. I know when I'm beaten. Like I've said before there are plenty of games thankfully that still work on this machine without fault. One of which is about to launch yet another major expansion. Just in time.

Although I said I was giving up I just couldn't let this lie. So I have spent the last two days in the cooler weather downloading the game again. I had uninstalled and removed the Gameforge client and deleted the folder.

This time I managed to get into the game. Sadly when in the proximity of other players the game is unplayable. When in Highwatch my inventory never shows anything in it, no matter how long I wait. Other players are just grey blobs. To leave I have to go to the outskirts and use a scroll and hope there is nobody in Tria.

When outside Highwatch the ground often opens up and vanishes. Like in a layer between the real Tera and a pool below.

Worst for me is the game has lost all its detail. My character that was sharp as a button is now blurred and there is a strange misty patch to the centre. The detail of the environment is all blurred and it looks like there is a grey mist over the whole area. I have tried looking at settings but this changes nothing.

At least I can get into game. However if anyone comes into contact with me I freeze to a standstill. System resources are running at over 95% used on memory so I guess the computer cannot handle the game. What is sad is that it was working fine before with no problem. That is in the past now. It really isn't going to be possible to play like this so thanks for letting me get back in, but it's doing my eyes in and I can't deal with blurry screens. I'm gonna plod away and try to get to 70 with this char by doing daily quests and staying out of others way. Then I'll have to think about coming back in the future with a better computer maybe.

I actually uninstalled the game and the Gameforge client today. Bit of a problem cus you can't ununstall the Gameforge client if you have fired up the interface in a session. Anyway I recycled the disc space andhave called it a day for Tera. So this will be the last thing I say on the matter. Other than it didn't work for me and I am chucking in the towel. I don't have the game or Gameforge anymore. Phew !

On that dxdiag thing you can place the file in a ZIP file and send that. I'm guessing. Chrome is so poor. It has no ED function with suitable text editor. OK for some I guess. Dunno, never use it.

I'm guessing they have factored in losing players like me as they chase the lucrative PvP market. In the end there is more to gain from future markets, and I can appreciate that, however, it wouldn't have hurt to bridge between the existing older users and the new. Sadly not, but hey I've been 64 BiT since 2011 and I can't play this game so what's the hope for others, no idea. Just a snowflake.

I wonder how many players the game has currently lost due to the failure of this patch. I can't see many that spend a long time downloading the game and find it not working are going to stick around to go through the whole process again. Its just bonkers. The trick is to get the thing working from the suplpiers end and stop relying on users sorting out their own problems. I recall the early days of Windows 95 when the joke of the day was to simply reinstall everything rather than ever solve a problem. Its just idle and pathetic in this day an age. Thought we had moved on from that kinda attitude.

Anyway I've had a policy for a long time now of leaving well alone when I start to get advice from users themselves.. Expecting to resolve a problem by hoping problems will just go away if you ignore them is always going to encourage players themselves to start tinkering with their installation. Next thing you know the whole game starts to fall over. Just not worth it.

Anyway my only activity with this game now is to post on the forums.

Waits hour for update install and verify process... fired game up. 'Tera is not responding'. I still have done nothing to this game other than allow the publishers to update the game. I have no add ons and have never modified the folder. And so another pointless hour in the blistering heat just to have the game fail.

Same time next Tuesday I guess.

I'm guessing the up coming or ongoing maintenace will not fix the primary issue of not being able to play anymore. So everything else kinda is menaingless. They patched it. They broke it. They should fix it. It don't work for some of us.

I'm sure that after submitting a ticket all I will be advised is to reinstall the game. It seems to be the only solution that works for most. Just takes too long for me. Maybe in time you will release an updated fix. I will check every so often to see if the repair works. Until then I'm happy playing something else.

    No problem.

Please note that I have already patched the game to 64Bit.

One thing I have considered to save time is to simply delete all the files from the Tera folder that are older than the 64bit patch date and then run a repair and see if it installs all the current versions of those files. It would certainly save the time of downloading the whole game.

I did try and move the Tera folder back into its original folder. Currently it is in a Tera folder inside the Tera folder but that didn't work. I don't know why it moved the Tera content into a fresh new folder if it retained files from the old installation.Unless it has uploaded new versions but they have the old date stamp.

In the current heat I can't leave the computer running for two days downlaoding the whole game again. It'll fry my machine.

One other thing if you can understand my comment is that the Windows system carries out a file indexing process on all files. This can be problematic when files reside outside of the Windows primary directory ( sometimes ). My folder is on a 'T' drive and not the OS 'C' drive. Back at the dawn of Tera we had to remove the main folder out of the x86 folder to get the launcher to work. My system is launching the game and then not responding. The process has all the signs of a fetch process being undertaken whilst a file indexing process is also underway. To refresh the file indexing system you would need a clean install. This way the computer can understand just where each file is. The current index having not been refreshed is looking in that first folder for the Tera files, not finding them and going through an indexing process. Also known as the green ribbon of death on a Win7 machine. If I could I would halt the game install and let the ribbon refresh the index but it can't.

It is pretty pointless discussing this with the publisher as they haven't got a clue. The matter is no doubt back with the developer and they are probably looking at way to overcome the issue. Hopefully. If not I gotta start using the Win10 machine... which would be bad, given that Win10 is crap. I'm happier playing something else at the moment. Needs must as we say.

Thanks for the info. Certainly confirms what I had thought. They need to focus on installation paths for the varying systems and OS versions.

I'm just going to wait and see if they ever fix it. If you have played the game since launch as I have you will have experienced many many many many many many many many many many issues with the launcher over the years. I have spent too much time with technical. Solutions in the end came from the users themselves. I myself discovered a way around a problem once and the technical guy thanked me. It shouldn't be like this. They are just lazy and hope the players solve their own problems.

This time I am not messing with anything. Not everyone that plays has the time, energy or expertise to mess around with the installation to make it work. It really is a shame they can't or don't want to manage their own game. Instead they just anticipate they will lose players. Well if they don't want to lose this one they better come up with a fix. Cus I aint doing nothing.

Instead of spending two days again reinstalling the game that I had already spent two days patching I have downloaded another game. Much smaller payload. And it works. Whoo hoo. So why would I bother. I will try every so often to see if they fixed it but I'm not holding my breath. For me I repeat I have done nothing. Its their game. They can fix it. They have a repair tool. Use the thing properly.

Most of you are not addressing a very important aspect. You kept your S1Engine.ini as read only.

    A lot has changed.

I just checked and my S1Engine.ini is not read only. And why ahould anyone who simply plays the game need to start modifying game files just to get this thing working. It is the developers product and distrubuted by the publisher. They manage the game and they and they alone hold control over their game content. I do nothing but play the game. At no point over the last few weeks was there any suggestion that I needed to do anything other than wait for the patch.

The game was installed originally using their product. The game has been patched by them. The game uses only their files. The game is repaired and verified each week it seems of late under their control. The game was patched and I had to struggle two days whilst it added 40GB plus to the folder. The files altered were the ones they chose to alter. I DID NOTHING. I have never altered or modified any files.

Amd now cus they have not done their job properly, to crack the egg with a hammer and solve what ever issues there are I am being told I have to delete everything and start over. Like thats 100GB of game that may or not work cus they aint got any other ideas. And here is the scoop... I'm guessing in the next few weeks they will have good reason to do the whole thing over again. I don't have fibre, I have a very reasonable but probably quite slow internet. I get by, but I can't be sitting here for two days at a time downloading a game that may or may not work.

I repeat. This aint my problem. Its only my problem cus I can't play their game. They have a repair tool on the interface. It is obviously broken cus it can't manage the files in the folder. And that again is not of my making. Sadly some of us will be cast aside in this process cus we probably represent a small percentage and they don't care. Probably been factored into the numbers. Thing is I have better things to do. If they can fix this then maybe I'll pick it up again. For now I have channel hopped and I am playing one thing and downloading another. I also have all my console games and Warcraft has the new expansion coming out. So its bye bye Tera. Nice while it lasted. [ been here since 2012 ]

I guess I'll have to try uninstalling and re downloading.

What a huge waste of time this was.

Took me two days and in this heat I aint gonna do that just to find it doesn't work. Hopefully next week they can find a fix. At the moment reinstalling the game isn't an option. If I'm going to put that much data back on the computer I may as well install BDO. At least I know it will work. Never mind. They bust it. They need to fix it.

No mods, nothing - game just sits there spinning away. the launcher tells me I am ingame but ...

If you check the Windows TaskManager it'll tell you that the application is not responding. Interestingly all my seven cores are through the roof and significant uplift on memory usage so it loaded the game. Sadly though having done two repairs now it still doesn't work. I have never altered changed or modified anything on the machine. It is totally the publishers installation. It was also they that initiated and installed the patch. There seems little point following guidance from those out of the loop. Having been in the same situation 8 years ago I will simply wait for a fix. It is they that have broken the installation and if they want my custom then they need to fix it. I have done nothing and the computer more than adequately meets their requirements. I repeat I have done nothing. It is their installation. SO FIX IT ALREADY.

Against better judgement I left the computer on for these last two days and just a few minutes ago it completed the installation. IT DOESN'T WORK. Stuck on spash screen.

I am currently validating the installation. If that doesn't work I guess its time to move on. Sadly I have been here before with the launcher issues, and I really can't be going through all that again.

Never mind. Was a fun eight years. At times.

UPDATE: I did a full repair of the game and still the same problem. Been stuck for over ten minutes. The game sadly isn't working anymore.

PS The minute the game is launched Windows is clocking it as not responding in the task manager. So the installation using the Tera Launcher is faulty, broken and not working sadly.
