Player Owned Houses?

  • I'm not sure if this was suggested before, but I think it would be cool to be able to have a house for your character. It could start really small and you have to spend both currency and materials to upgrade your house and make it bigger. The better the upgrade, the higher the cost. Also, maybe adding furniture you have to craft or even adding a construction skill in the crafting section all together to upgrade your house and make furniture. Having a new skill would be pretty awesome.

  • sadly we’ll never get anything like this. the closest we had was years back with guild sky castles, you could somewhat customize them with merchants. if you want a mmo with a housing system try bdo or even wizard101 has a good housing system.

    Why did tthe sky castles disappear? Did something bad happen?

  • As nice as it would be to see player housing, it would probably involve creating the whole system from scratch. Honestly, if the devs are going put that much time and effort into something I'd much rather see them put it into more meaningful content.

  • most probably it wasn't in the game because of copyright issue. i did heard something about some other game has created the housing system and make some sort of copyright for it. therefore other game developer can't do the same thing. not sure if this is true or not.

    i would like to decorate my house with some flowers in it. a sofa , maybe a bedroom and oohhh..toilet as well. kitchen, living room , dining room , study room and a wardrobe. ohh and a garden look nice too. XD

    ohhh..and also room for partner and pets as well. and can invite friends, party member into the house ......

  • yes, housing. having owned a skycastle in the past i can safely say nobody in my guild was there much, if at all. it was mainly prestige.

    having played BDO, the same applies for your own housing. only real reason to visit was because it allowed you to cook buffs in it.

    the rest of the housing was mainly used as a buff for drops in the zone the house was in.

    i.e. the more valuable items in it, the better the drops. ofcourse shop updates there included luxury furniture.

    so to me housing is not on my wish list.

    Not really how copyright works, you're thinking of patents there.

    Copyright only protects creative expressions of something, not something that's functional.

    I.E. A cake recipe can't be protected by copyright, but the life story of the author and the pictures of the cake can be.

    Other games have done it in the past as well, like Dragon's Prophet, Black Desert Online, MapleStory 2, etc.

    So It likely isn't a copyright issue.

    From my knowledge it was a planned feature as well at one point, but dropped, likely because player housing is just something that's really complex to build. From a technical standpoint.

  • If you look in the major cities (Velika, Kaiator, and Allemantheia) where the Map is yellow with no label of any kind, those areas were meant to be housing originally, which is why they're bare and mostly empty, excluding small things like crates, and usually provide 'houses' on the outside, but clearly aren't able to be interacted with.

    For Velika;

    Allemantheia's was meant to be underground, which is what the multiple elevators are for inside the city;

    Kaiator;

    I don't recall a reason why BlueHole cancelled the idea, but I just know they built the areas, colored them yellow, then left them sitting there. It'd be nice if they'd do anything with all the empty spaces we have (Baldera, anyone?), however I can say with certainty that after all this time, without any original developers (99% likely) around, they're looking at those and wondering what the spaces are for too, and then forgetting they exist and leaving them alone because it's not part of the story, nor is it part of game mechanics.

  • It could bring in money if they sold decorations/furnishings in the cash shop. I think that could have worked had it been introduced earlier in the game's life, but at this point, I don't think it would bring in enough to offset the cost of development.

  • i was looking if it was possible to make it like Room Slot. Where the first 3 room are free for players. then they can sell additional Room Slot under Tera shop. Probably there are some sort of elevator to go from room to room. then the developer can decide whether they gonna add more room per character or not. and player get to decide their house is a hermit house or eventually build a castle (i mean ...many rooms). something like that.

    costing wise.. i don't know how the developer will decide.

  • I want sky castle back, the devs could have kept them in. I really wanted to get one, but nope.

    The old devs kept removing good content rather than repurposing them, Such a waist.

    If they cared about their game and the players they would have done better things.
