The impossible quest to escape carrot content

  • Dear fellow players and mods

After some quick and dirty calculations, I discovered players starting with this new patch (after double loot) need to run, on average, 200+ runs of Catalepticon to receive enough Lumikan Wing Fragments to upgrade their gear to reach the item-level to run the same content they were able to run 2 weeks ago.

For a player without Tera Club or Thalers with 1 playable character it would take ~1.5 months on average to get that far if they would play every single day, only CAT, until their coins run out... for 40+ days...

    Thoughts?

  • So new or returning players are welcomed by 2 months of playing the same dungeon (if you're lucky) and that should convince them to pay a membership? Even with TC the grind is ridiculous for a "decent" set of gear. Imagine last patch grinding 8 CSNM every day for a month to get full +10 kaia so you can run other dungeons.

There is a multitude of ways to easily improve the player experience for both f2p and p2p players. Start with making the wings group loot (1 per run) so there is not another rng aspect that can make those 200 runs into 400. Collecting materials to enchant gear is part of the appeal to this game. I don't want to skip that. I just don't want it to be an endless grind of the same dungeon with no guarantee of succes.

  • a game needs money to run, so:

    p2w has advantages.

    f2p have disadvantages.

    low effort troll, man...

This shitty f2p/p2w business model is why TERA is so dead compared to older games like WoW and FFXIV...

And dare anyone tell me that it works for TERA and that TERA is not dead, they need to log in for a day to those OLDER mmos and see how active they are, after all these years, WHILE being B2P at the same time.

  • never said their business model is a good one. :P

but many people on forum never spend/spent a dime on tera and still think they have a right to demand the same benefits as people that do.

if that should happen, who would pay anything if there was no difference?

nobody, and thus no income. and thus no tera.

i merely wanted to remind some of them.

(also got annoyed at the 99% negativity on forum. even if they made a good change someone finds something to complain about. could have been any other post i replied to, but it was this)

like i didnt notice latest patches are all pointing to shop lol.

I personally haven't spent real money on tera, but have bough enough stuff from broker that other people buy from cash shop be that skins, vouchers, expansions and often enough it's the same people selling it. I don't have problem with cash shop if its for cosmetics or extra stuff/entries or perks like having infinite battle pots and crystalbinds, mount, cuz all that can be obtained within the game so there is no NEED for it. But when crucial materials (that is a must to have in order to progress) are next to non existent and you don't see the end for the grind yet cash shop has all the materials that you need in the amount you need, that's where I have a problem. It wouldn't be if it would come down to playing more hours/weeks to catch up to the paying players but it's not like that, you may never reach +15 cuz of the materials that won't drop or if drops you won't get it and if you do get it, it might fail.

  • you have just proved my point. you dont pay but expect full service and guarantee.

i might not like it but its théir decision.

whether its a good one or a bad one we cant tell, as we cant see into their administration.

for the time being im just (still) glad i can play for free.

i stopped giving too much of a damn about upgrading ever since patch "pay gold for everything and every try". limits my abilities but saves a lot of frustration- which, btw, is also a part of the business model. many get frustrated enough to say "okay wtf i'll just throw some money at it".

as for the response (or lack of) of dev's to answer our complaints: how much merit shall i give someone that gives me nothing as opposed to someone that spent 1000's ? hmm....*thinking*

  • Yes, cuz buying TT from people with gold is not a transaction or any contribution to cash shop right? You really think everyone is spending real money and not buying that stuff from broker with gold? By your logic, none of those people have right to complain about game not being fair cuz they haven't spent money directly.

  • well, exactly. even if i dont like saying it. buying from broker is not direct spending, it still relies on the one buying tt and putting things on broker.

    hmm.

just imagine you gave someone something for free, that person notices some flaws on the item and demands you fix it and give a full 2 year warranty. what would you think?

    exactly.*

or youve just spent 5k on a new desktop ( so you can meet tera's new requirements ^^)

and there is a customer next to you who has been given a free desktop which is somewhat flawed. so that guy complains to the shopkeeper, and the shopkeeper gives him a full upgrade and warranty and then he will have the same desktop you just paid 5k for.

because he has as much rights as a paying customer.

    what would you think?

    exactly.

    * = bear in mind i know why games are free to play, to lure more people and hope they spend money.

just examples so you understand my train of thought.

i dont like the cash shop upgrading any more than you do.

wish we could return to the times when games were niche-fun and for the love of the game, and not cashcows to be milked by ever-greedier investors, but we cant turn back time.

  • Paying players rely on regular player demands too cuz that's how they make their in game gold and that is a fair trade imho. Would it matter to you if someone buys from you for themselves or for others? at the end you still get paid no matter who buys it as long as someone does.

To answer your questions: I haven't seen anyone demand best or even anything for free. People want an opportunity to catch up to those who did pay (that's the paying advantage, no grind, enjoy the best content there is) It starts to remind me of Aion early days, where without gold pack you couldn't use broker, lfg or trade the essentials of the game.

  • I paid TC with real money for years. It's not even about catching up or getting an advantage. There's only one dungeon that advances your ilvl to where you can play all dungeons. Why would I pay for TC again if all I'm getting is more CAT every day for the next few weeks, just so I'm able to play the real content of the game?

Either way, I doubt they'll make any new changes anytime soon. They added boxes that drop enchanting materials to the elleon marks shop, but since it's competing against Enhanced Duranium Medallions (the black infusions), it's probably as expensive as just straight-up buying boxes and keys from broker.

Basically a "fix" that doesn't fix anything.

Exactly! They don't even care for loyal PAYING players. They just keep adding more and more important items to cash shop and when that is gonna run its course, they will come up with another content where cash shop it required. As long as they get that money rush that happens at the start of each patch with buyable items.
