Tera Classic Server Poll and Discussion (Consolidated)

  • Signed, will not back to play actual Tera unless in the old iteration, do not like all this tedious grind and farming with the last years patches, it completely ruined the foundamental of the game.

Want the more difficult and challenging game, where you just log-in and play with friends open world events, guild wars or old dungeons.

As support method i'm fine with GW2 model, pay once and rest is maintained with the fascion shop. Yes, you read it right, i will pay a one time fee just to play the old game, i have no problem in doing so.

Features i want to like to see is the game core keep till "blast from the past" feature and no reaper, where even at a level 60 you can downlevel to play old dungeons with new players, open world Nexus, unrestricted open world pvp with karma system, flying mounts can be a good addition but not mandatory, what's matter is the baseline concept of 2012 Tera, rest can be upgraded but the core and difficulty should stay 2012, aka difficult to beat BAMS, a game where you require a party or other players to complete certain tasks and not the today easy mode like many other crappy mmorpgs.

    Please GF make this happening.

  • Is there way to see the results of that poll?

The survey was made by Kirino, so he has acces to the results.
I am assuming he'll post the results once the survey's closed (He said he wants to keep it up for about a month).

  • Hi,

Just giving a short update as to what the main responses from the poll have been after 1 week (roughly 800 responses as of 28 January 2021).

    • A majority of the players are interested in a Classic server
    • There seems to be a close split between what people consider a classic server to be between level 60 and 65
    • Around 60% of the people would prefer a F2P model should a Tera classic ever be made and the remaining 40% would prefer a type of payment (P2P/B2P).
    • A majority of the responses say they would still play should there no maintenances or anti-bot&gold system
    • 40% would expect new content on a classic server and 25% would not. The remaining 35% do not mind as long as there is a a poll to decide what is added
    • Even if a Tera Classic requires a P2P model a majority of the players would still be willing to play.

I’m not sure if the makeup of the poll responses in terms of percentages for each question will change however we will keep the poll open for longer to see how many more responses we can get.

We will share this with Gameforge in the hopes of them analysing the responses to send to BHS or just sending the responses directly to them.

    My thoughts

I as many Tera players would love to see a Tera Classic server once again. For people like myself the game in its current state is disheartening to see and each patch we see a dwindling player base.

It’s no secret that there has recently been an upsurge of multiple unofficial ******* servers which of course have been profiting from players desperate to play a classic version of Tera which Gameforge and BHS have not been able to supply. Whilst this has been an ongoing request the fact that there has been many bugs, exploits etc. which have not been fixed or completely ignored (especially in pvp) really gives some players no other option but to give their time (and money) to the unofficial ******* servers which are offering that which Gameforge and BHS won’t supply no matter how many times players have requested.

It seemed like whenever the topic came up in the forums that the Community Managers would always simply ignore the request so one of the reasons for the polls was to put players views and request for a Tera Classic server on a simple graph for both Gameforge and BHS to see.

As a Tera Classic server will no doubt require time, money, resources we had also put questions in the poll so that Gameforge and BHS can consider all these factors in terms of considering whether they have the capacity to release a classic server.

The current results from the poll show that in terms of costs most players would be okay with paying should the server require a P2P mode. In terms of resources most would be fine without long term development/content/maintenances as long as the server is functional.

One point that could be raised is that “with the decline of the playerbase of the main game, wouldn’t splitting the playerbase make the game more dead?”

The answer to that is NO.

A majority of the players who will most likely stay to play the classic server will be old players who have left or those who currently do nothing in game but who still keep up to date with the news (awaiting for something like a classic server once again).

I don’t need to tell this but this can be seen from the attraction of the temporary server gameforge did for 6 weeks. Can you imagine that a video of a TEMPORARY classic server is Gameforge’s most watched video for Tera in their whole YouTube existence with over a million views?

It is clear to see that the demand is there however if Gameforge believe that it carries “too much risk” then they can once again host a Classic server to visually see this themselves. Should you decide this option I urge you to first listen to the players in terms of changes to be made PRIOR to the release.

It may be the case that you’re hands are tied in terms of carrying out certain requests from your playerbase. For this reason we ask that you at least forward on the results of the poll to BHS to convey our request once it is closed.

At the minimum we deserve for you to pass on our feedback we have on the game you publish to the developers.

  • Long text full of bullshit + some fanboy fantasy world poll.

A classic server doesn't make sense in the long run. It would be fun the first few days but than everyone would leave for the main game again because it gets updated. And splitting the playerbase is stupid too.

They need to fix the game instead of creating a classic server that wouldn't even be a real classic server in the first place.

  • that you’re hands are tied

    Your* hands are tied.

Okay but on a more serious note:

Should you decide this option I urge you to first listen to the players in terms of changes to be made PRIOR to the release.

So much of THIS. Forgot to mention it, but I intended to talk about this too. Make sure you listen to feedback, not only in a hypothetical classic server sense, but in general, as it seems to me many ppl are disappointed in current CMs because of lack of communication.

A classic server doesn't make sense in the long run. [...]

While I see your point, and I agree that progress in itself makes a lot more sense than regression, however, it has been shown to us countless of times that when BHS does an oopsie they don't fix it. I can confidently state not only as a personal opinion, that the current state of Tera's PVP is a joke. Apex will be forever part of the game, and it was the definitive killing blow to it. Even if they'd remove Apex from BGs it wouldn't change the fact that all classes are broken at this point for PVP, not to mention that the EP points would also still stay in effect. (Retal cd reset? Random debuffing and cleansing of previously uncleansable debuffs? MP management basically irrelevant? )

Now that's not to say I decide for people what to enjoy or like or not, but the reason this thread was started was because of PVP in the first place.

However I don't actually want a vanilla vm1 classic either, and ppl who cry for "Muh Manaya, muh Nexus" are a just as much of a joke as I probably feel to everyone else. Like people would actually want the slow, tedious lvling back, I'm sorry what? Skip to max lvl - so many people I talked to wouldn't even bother if they had to lvl all over again, especially people who prefer to play many classes.

The wonders of first time experiencing this game will never be back. The feeling you got the first time you entered The Plexus and encountered Shandra Manaya will never be back either. Your old team of OG Guild and guildies will probably never be back together either.

However, PVP is something that keeps continuing if the community keeps playing, therefore new memories and new moments of joy, rage, tilt, salt and fun can be achieved because of it. That's what it stands for - player versus player.

Like you said, the current state of Tera should only "progress forwards", but even if they tried to, they'll never make PVP what it was once: Fun.

  • Sorry for spam but I’ve just come across this event server called Manahan done by Gameforge in December 2017 (seems to be patch 63/64)

LIVE NOW! MANAHAN – THE EVENT SERVER!

    @
    threea @Atmorph @Baldrov @Languste @Melione

I’m curious as to whether Gameforge still has something like this.....? And whether this could be something they could consider releasing again (albeit with a few changes) even as some form of “seasonal server” etc.?

I didn’t join EU from NA til June 2018-ish so it would be nice to hear more about this Manahan event and the views people have of it (for those who played)

I imagine people would rather play this version of Tera rather than the current main game (at least from my perspective ) for pvp?

Would people be interested in this if it was the only option/patch Gameforge could offer?

  • There's communication happening, but besides announcements it rarely ever is through the forum while users are encouraged to keep submitting feedback through it.

I remember seeing during the transfer from EME to GF that forum submissions for feedback were encouraged here! But after seeing all the cries, pleads and hopes from users (new and old) for even minor changes that could bring more satisfaction to the community, its disheartening. All I see is a compassionate player base who care for the game (in which they've spent precious time and money), make great suggestions only to have unavailing responses from those who are in a position to make change within the game.

Its sad, and I really love TERA. I really hope people see these forums... and I really hope that someone here who can do something about it will.

(PS: I think its sad when I've been playing for years but prefer to do old stuff (and by that I mean, i dont care about recent patches because its all the same grind); lore and dailies, building up my reputation, pvp, deathmatches or whatever they're called, exploration and site seeing... To this day I still find new stuff.... but its not new stuff from new patches, its stuff I've yet to discover in the game that they added forever ago.)

(PSS: They are sitting on a whole abandoned city..... that has INVISIBLE WALLS AROUND IT! (Also Velika Wilds????- mind you I don't know all the drama that went down back then with the dev's who were working on these places) Do something with it! You have so much potential for content in this game, at least a quarter of the map is empty and useable(?!) Its sucks that the only thing that has come out in recent years is Exodor- which i think is a super cool place dont get me wrong, but there is so much more that could be done...)

  • I think it is not more a question of creating a classic server, but blue hole to find investors to make a Tera Rebirth, based on classic (no gender or race bind class) but with some new mechanics and the 64 engine, i think is possible rework nexus to work with 24 players only each shard similar with guardian missions and make that's guardian missions "small invasions" changing to only have argon bosses or armies, rework too new classes to become less one button spam

and no more gender/race bind, make reaper a class playable in history only, the player receive a reaper and follow her in that history side only without touch the open world, rework owpvp and make more safe spots for players who can't want to be pklized (make npcs (guards) in that spots extreme aggressive with players with pk (red name) make some small areas with lots of npcs (guards) walk around to auto hunt pk players, change craft to make useful in all game levels and make players have fun with gathering and hunt some enemies to get fur, leather, tooth, skin, meat etc... make all bams in all areas useful for hunt with best in map level loot give to player the choice or far dungeon or farm bams ( after all they are bosses no ?)

    :)

  • I'm sure my opinion will be hated but I don't see Tera Classic as good thing. There are some serious questions that need honest answers to better understand reasons, why company is not eager to release classic server.

How many players will return? How many players will stay longer than one month? How many ppl are willing to slowly progress all characters/classes again? How many ppl are willing to pay for all old content that already did few years ago?

It's true that in short run, there will be many old players in the begining. But many ppl will leave for the same reason that they left between 2012-2014. I started with this game when became F2P (february 2013) and stopped somewhere in mid 2014. There was already complains about pvp and other things that forced ppl leave. So what will be different this time?

Only fun part for me in this game is leveling. It was huge fun few years ago and it's still decent fun nowadays (but extremely fast and short for my taste). I made all classes, leveled them to max and then left, because end game was boring and there wasn't much to do mainly for PvE players. Nowadays it's almost the same, maybe slightly less boring because of pointless fishing and guard missions (only fun addition to this game). So how many PvE players will be willing to play same PvE content, same story and boring end game content again?

I understand that majority of pll who want classic server are old PvP players. It's true that PvP is almost dead and asking for better PvP is fair. It's also true that classic server can bring PvP to the point, when it was fun. But if classic server won't be lucrative or interesting for PvE players (e.g. basic classes only or reason I mentioned above), I doubt that PvP players can uphold population for that server alone.

I don't know what is best solution, but I don't think classic server is right way. I agree with opinion that changing and fixing actual version is better way. (But it never happen because population is already very low.)

  • Only fun part for me in this game is leveling. It was huge fun few years ago and it's still decent fun nowadays (but extremely fast and short for my taste). I made all classes, leveled them to max and then left, because end game was boring and there wasn't much to do mainly for PvE players.

Once again people proving that any lvl 60 content was boring as hell, especially in retrospective, and it should be very early (if not first) lvl 65 patch - as it had a bit more speed, skills to use and you know... "action combat".

Also how surprising, PvE players wanting to be the deciding factor when PvP is mentioned. Don't get me wrong, I'm not particularly angry or aiming this at you Joey, but I also made a post in this thread in favor for PvE players. (Should be on first page)

As for people who want low lvl pk because they enjoyed it so much back in the days (I'm not against it by any means):

You do realize that people will now understand how classes and game mechanics work, and any moment a class gets a skill that gives great advantage over your own class you'll never win the fight right (assuming players with same skillset)? Warriors got Scythe at lvl 60 remember? Archer Rain of Arrows at lvl 58 and ranged traps at 60 anyone? Meanwhile sorcerers had Stun Trap, Burst Of Celerity and Fireblast by lvl 48 iirc (though I'm pretty sure BoC was around lvl 46~ and FB was even sooner than that) There'll be points in your lvling journey that you'll absolutely hate because your class is vastly inferior to other classes trying to PK you. Maybe you like the idea of that, but I'm not so sure...? Like I said, I'm not against PK in any form in any way, I'm just saying what you remember about the game would be a completely different experience now. Just keep that in mind please.

I am also lowkey amazed at people who come here and boldly say "I quit back in 2014/5/x" and talk as if they know what benefits or disadvantages later patches had, including QoL, gearing, game mechanic, class-balancing-wise and so on.

  • Long text full of bullshit + some fanboy fantasy world poll.

No it's just your text what is bullshit. When i came home after work, i dont want to grind. I dont want to make New gear. I dont want to run dungeons. I dont want farm any other shit. I want to come online, do some duels, outlaw and battlegrounds with gear i can roll with different options depending on my playstyle. If there would be a permanent classic server with shorehold, fraywind and skyring with your own gear, you would never ever see me on tera vanilla and i would play that server as long as there is no other game with the same combat system. Currently i log in to tera, do nothing and log out.

PvP is not about who farmed or duped their OP gear first. It is about competition and that is the reason why permanent pvp classic server would stay for very long. Pve need updates, pvp dont.

PvP need working leaderboards and costumes, titles etc for the best ranked players as a reward

I want that too. But this was NEVER the case back in the day. We needed to play stupid PvE over and over again for better gear for Fraywind/Skyring...

People in here are talking about a classic server and not about PvP how you describe it, so you are misunderstanding the topic or my posts.

TERAs days are over, especially the PvP days.

We need a new modern UE5 PvP only game with teras action combat system where you can create your own characters and just pick glyphs, crystals and gear and jump straight into PvP.

Such a game should obviously not just be empty and should have other nice additions to keep a high playerbase.

  • Hello and thank you for all your work and efford to make a classic server a possibility. I still have faith and hope that GF can consider it since there is enought demand.

The normal game is declining, and the only content added is just more race/classes combo, grind and farm dungeons while everything else is dead.

Will support you as much as i can, as i said before i prefer a B2P model like GW2 + cosmetic item shop for ingame gold or real money, hopefully GF thanks to this poll and demand will consider a separate classic and permanent server based on 2012 VM1 and expand the game from such turning point without screwing the foundamental of the game that attract lots of people back then.

As you can notice, i'm one of these old players that stopped back around in 2014-2015 after the game turned free to play. I back sometimes after, but the game changed so much, was so easy and everyone solo BAMs, i was really disgusted and disappointed to the point that log-in was boring and eventually i left again back to GW2.

You know what make GW2 better? They add content and more maps not screwing the BASE game. If you want to play old content you can simply back to old maps and do world bosses and dynamic events like in the past. Every sone and map is unique.

The level never increased, the grind for gear was never a thing, what attract GW2 is dinamic events, world bosses and non battle stuff you do on the fly and you never feel behind other people.

Mean you log-in and do what you want without thinking of grinding or advance in gear, since gear not matter much and base gear that allow you to handle everything is easy to get, you play with other random people and have fun for 1-2 hours then you log-out and back the day after and do something else. This is the best selling point of the game and is how Tera was before they add the grinfest and farming for gear.

I liked and played Tera untill they remove the "blast from the past" downleveling dungeon feature, the Nexus and pvp open world content, i had a blast with these features, infact i logged in everyday to do such old dungeons with new or old players for fascion coupons and other usefull items only for the fun, these dungeons where not easy like now but hard and require coordination and full class trinity (healer + tanker + dps). Even low level dungeons weren't easy.

These were the golden days of Tera where everything was more hard and require coordination between guilds and parties, where people log-in like you do today with GW2, just for the daily dose of fun and not because grind and farm.

Tera should be again a fun game without the tedious tasks they added later, Tera should be a game that you play with friends and beat dynamic stuff.

Thank to all old and also new players to support a classic server, the only possibile way to save the game from a inevitable death. Tera deserve much better that increase the cap and farm mats for powerfull gear, Tera deserve to be fun again like in the past free from crap like levels, gear farming, skill boost, and other tedious tasks no one like to do.

  • @Admins send the poll to BHS and communicate with them, and with communication i dont mean "We send a lovely e-mail with an elin sticker"

You dont see this **** game is dying?

Just look at the forum: German forum --> Dead, French forum --> Super dead, English forum --> Only fat neckbearded elin players who never touched or saw a real woman before

Let me go back to VM1 where i could GvG with these wannabe PvP Pros and see their salty tears in Allchat.

And can you stop with the "live" broadcasting on steam? Every time i check for tera i see two of you GF employees which try to convince that this **** is good

We want Tera Classic back. wait... let me rephrase... We want Tera Classic back ON PC

  • I think I need to clarify something to people because it seems that after all the dumb pointless rambling people still don't get it.

There are two type of players who want classic:

    1. The nostalgic player, who want to relive the past of Tera and then realize the game is not what they remember it is.
    2. The PvP monkes like myself and a few others here, who want classic not to relive the past, but to play in a Tera patch before PvP was mercilessly murdered and turned into a joke by BHS.

The thing about the nostalgic player is this: People tend to romanticise events or experiences that happened in the past that they can no longer experience again (It kind of plays off the "Don't know what you had until you lost it" trope.) You can NEVER relive the past. If you want to play classic Tera where lvling takes ages and the whole game is still what you think it is, go play that emulated JAVA version of old Tera. Search on the net for it.

I am also lowkey amazed at people who come here and boldly say "I quit back in 2014/5/x" and talk as if they know what benefits or disadvantages later patches had, including QoL, gearing, game mechanic, class-balancing-wise and so on.

Case in point. Prime example of the "Nostalgic Player".

PvP is not about who farmed or duped their OP gear first. It is about competition and that is the reason why permanent pvp classic server would stay for very long. Pve need updates, pvp dont.

PvP need working leaderboards and costumes, titles etc for the best ranked players as a reward

And the prime example of the PvP monke.

PvPers will neevr get what they want, because either the current PvE players are against it (or somehow want to exploit, benefit from it more), or because when classic is mentioned the Nostalgic Players will come in as a mindless horde saying how great vanilla Tera was.

    Rip in pieces.

  • Case in point. Prime example of the "Nostalgic Player".

Well, is not really nostalgia, but the base core of the game that was very different from how Tera is today.

These old years Tera was really fun because the game had many different features, like bams, open pvp and nexus, now is just a empty farming and grinding fest in these dungeons for your daily intake of mats. This is just awfull, redundant and boring af.

    Just my 2 cents.

FYI yes I quit in 2014 but always returned back for few weeks when new classes was released. And I'm playing Tera last few weeks just to see what is changed. So I have decent picture about that.

Many ppl don't realize that there is always two sides of one coin. On one side players who want fun and on other side company that want profit. And many times these two things don't go well together (mainly in game industry nowadays and mainly for MMO games and greedy korean devs). Fun doesn't make profit for company but p2w mech, grinding, gear progression do.

My point is many ppl asking for classic server with no gear progression, no grinding, just pure fun PvP with no updates. Yes, and how this make profit for company? Or you think they will be happy just release classic server without any profit or monetization in mind? (B2P is not solution. It failed when game was released and it will fail again. Same model failed in many other MMO games.)

And blaming PvE players for dead PvP. How classy. Yes, there was few crybabies who wanted PvP be dead but majority of PvE players really don't care. PvP is dead and BHS don't care becase it wasn't profitable. I'm sure they not figured out how to monetized or make good profit from that part of game and just let PvP die. (Squeezing out money from PvE players is more profitable thanks to gear progression. xD)

Don't get me wrong. I don't care if there will be classic server or not. I'm just giving my opinion based from my previous experiences. If they release classic server, good for you (and everyone who want this), but don't be surprised when some things in that version will be different than you expected.

  • Its Gameforge a publisher that ruined AION and killing TERA with their politics im pretty sure they goin to bankrupt in future just like EN masse did. About classic i doubt its even possible and conjuct patch is the best.
