Tera Classic Server Poll and Discussion (Consolidated)

  • There wont ever be a successful classic server because there is no mass interest.

    Especially not for a Pay 2 Play server.


    The only thing i see here are some people that have no clue how TERA/companies work and that they don't even play the game, instead they come back to this game and forum after months/years of inactivity and demand a classic server.


    Your opinions and stupid ideas are irrelevant since you don't even play the game.

  • As for some of the people who argued that many private servers have been created and failed already, yes, but also they were private servers.

    Which means no marketing/advertising and automatically a much smaller playerbase than an official server.

    But even then, a bunch of ppl p2win'd in said servers, and in fact they do even to this day :)

    Man, I am not against a "Classic" server, however I find weird that TERA is the only game without "solid" pirate servers. A lot of games have them and in some case they were even better than the official version.


    What I have noticed is most of these servers were focused on content before level 65 (level 60 era). This can give us a hint what kind of Classic server wont work at all. If anything I think your idea of a "Classic lvl 65" is a good one. Because as you said is the point were classes combat speed feels more appealing, while old lvl 60 classes feels really annoying to play because how slow you feel them.


    There is one pirate server out there in EU since 10 months ago based on Tensus patch. To be honest its not doing great but its still alive. If you are not happy with GameForge you could try that version and see if thats what you are looking for.

    I played on said pserver, but the EU-side server was only up for a month.

    The original server is hosted far away, so my ping is unbearable, also my friends don't play on that anymore for the same reason, and the overall population is low, if not completely deserted already.

    All people here says they are willingly to pay for a classic server even said they are willingly to play on it regardless of the location, for the game build before 2015, but every single option that has been opened in the past that gives something similar that people here "wants" cant even live up for a year...


    What reasons "economically" has GameForge to open a Classic server with all this data of failure attempts?


    Saying "I will pay for it" its diferent to actually do it. Promises are easy to make, fulfilling them is another matter.


    From the revenue perspective I wouldnt try to open a permanent classic server. History has taught the only way to bring it back is a temp event server. Other wise is not worth the "investment".

    The answer is quite obvious.

    TeraPrime was the first Russian pserver before there was official Russian server released.

    And GF shut it down for legal issues.

    The same goes for probably every other pserver, including the one we were talking about. Like I said only the EU server was shut down for "unknown" reasons, despite ppl p2winning about 3k-5k euros for sure on that single server. The other server located somewhere else is safe and sound and running despite being dead as hell.

    What the hell are you talking about. The only way to bring back a classic Tera server is to make it temporary again, and therefore have a built-in failure by means of not being permanent and therefore not appealing to Classic Tera fans?
    You ever heard of the successful history of Runescape classic, or WoW classic?

    I honestly believe you could be a staff member of activision/gameforge with that kind of @ss-backwards logic.

    Yeah we know how they work, or in BHS/gameforge's case, how they DON'T work. That's why we're trying to smarten them up before Tera completely implodes on itself.

    If this assumption of yours were actually true, people spending thousands on pirate servers with game patches before 2015, then for some years by now you would have an official Classic server at least for EU people. Truth to be know is, there is none and this pretty much is because "revenew" factors.


    I cant speak for people who I dont know, its easy to say "there are lots of people who spent thousands on pirate servers" however I dont see anyone saying "I spent thousands on them" and of course with means to prove it.


    At least I have my Steam Wallet, PayPal and Bank history that can back me up if I ever need to speak like that but I never seen anyone who can back up that here.


    You people need to put your feet on the ground and understand that if "TERA" pirate servers are in even worse state than Killian were a couple of years ago and if temp event classic servers have no success then there is nothing to back up the thought that a Permanent Classic Server would be a success.


    If anything I convinced that the suggestion should be to get a temp event server for Classic version and ask GF to extend the live time as long as they can and not only for one month. You cant bit more than you can chew.

  • Indeed, i still think that there is a lot of interest at the moment since there is nothinf new on the market, or better, the mmorpg market id dead, you do not need to trust me but numbers and stats, the normal server have a very low population since lots of older players didn't like where the game is heading and because is pretty stagnating and redundant.

    Even if there are 2 servers, a normal and a classic with the same population is anyway a success for GF, is almost double the income. GF should seriosuly consider to support a classic perma server with a possible GW2 support model (buy to play with cosmetic item shop) before the interest will vanish forever.

    Other older mmorpg classic server are today still succesfull because, again, there is nothing new to play and the best mmorpg are of course the ones from the past.

  • Many ppl forgot why was Tera considered as a fail from the beginning:

    - Korean server lost half of the population in less than 6 months. (Even before game was released in the west.)
    - Devs and publishers was forced to go from monthly subscription to F2P 6 months after western version was released. (Reason was obvious.)

    - Majority of western reviews gave mediocre score with same reasons - inovative combat system in MMO genre, nice visuals but boring content with repetitive quests.

    - Censorship not helped bring more players.

    - Bad marketing (mainly in Korea) not helped bring more players also.


    And now what ppl want:
    - Classic server with any paying model without P2W/P2Progress bs or no gear progression in general. (Only opinion that is widely different is which version use as start point. I agree with opinion that best version as a start point is right after lvl 65 expansion was released. I'm not sure if it can be still considered as a classic, but it was relatively good time for both pvp and pve I think.)


    Can you see the problem?

    - Tera content was boring and repetitive from the beginning. That is the main reason, why game lost half of the playerbase in short period of time. Returning to this time will change nothing, only prolong inevitable.

    - Asking for no P2W/P2Progress or no gear progress is same as asking company not to make profit. Yes there was some sort of transitional period when game went from P2P to F2P model (game was in similar state that ppl asking), but only because devs didn't have enough time to figured out how to properly monetize new model. Later the monetization hell started anyway. So I'm sure the classic server won't be released until BHS figure out how to heavily monetize that server even with small playerbase. Don't be surprised when things will be different than you asked.

    - And P2P/B2P model failed even when game was new. Now when playerbase is much smaller, using these payment models will be death wish for server.


    For me I can consider playing on classic server only with these two conditions:
    - Game will be fully uncensored. (What was the point censoring gear when swimsuits released few months later revealed more skin than gear itself?)
    - End game content won't be boring as hell. (Guard missions are good example how to make game little more fun or adding more interesting ways how to progress gear.)


    I'm sure these conditions will never be fulfilled same as I'm almost sure classic server will never be a thing (unless they find out how to milk players). Game already making small profit so there are no much resources to make any changes for classic version. And release old unchanged buggy and boring version is unwise in my opinion considering the history. There is nothing more I can say and this is my last post in this topic.

    I can agree with your conditions (i'm 100% against censorship as you can see from my signature and avatar), the game need to be maintaned indeed, however i don't agree about that the old Tera was borging, yes end game was boring at beginning, when the game was just released, but they fixed it some months later with new content and fixes. I said so as a founder pay to play player, so i was there 9 years ago.

    Now what people talking about in the actual game vs old done, the new one is a completely different game, easy, filled with grind and farm, repetitive, stagnating, but worst thing is, they do not keep the old content, like for example in GW2 where you can back to play the old content without new abilities and "masteries" (that aren't mandatory), they completely erase the old content and change the base core of the game, removing open world content, watering down the difficulty, killing guild wars and pvp, etc...


    Other mmorpg never removed old content, they only add new content for new maps, separating old stuff and new, while in Tera they change, removing and watering down old content.

    In the mmorps i mentioned above where they completely change the game, like in Lineage 2 and wow, they succesfull relaunch the classic server and patch it from there but keep the base core, as the playerbase demand.


    There is demand for a classic server, this topic surpass 4000+ views, you can't reach such milestone with the only actual player base. Actual playerbase is tiny because the game is not interesing anymore, so do not be negative but happy if they consider a classic server and spread the voice around mmo communities to lure in more people.

  • Tera they change, removing and watering down old content.

    I can not agree with this more!!!!!

    I agree so much that i feel the need to share some things ive noticed that they have changed/removed that I can't wrap my brain around..... why wouldn't they just leave it as it was and continue to expand their game?!

    (i feel like why half-booty take it out??? If you are gunna remove a feature from your game. Take all of it out, not just make them unreachable anymore....... what a tease!!!!!!)

    Here is a small list of things (feel free to add):

    • story line (choppy and doesn't make sense if you actually pay attention to it)
    • gathered materials
    • crafting
    • guild castles (old & gold)
    • PvP
    • invisible walls (in weird places mind you)
    • nexus
    • altitude limit (which came with flying mounts, but its making some places unreachable- why put an altitude limit if you make them have flight duration anyways... you can only go so high with so much stamina!!!!)
    • alliances
    • leveling (i feel like its way faster compared to how it used to be, to the point where you dont even get to enjoy it anymore)
    • campfires & charms....... that stuff was so cool!
    • baldera and velika wilds (TEASING ME W THE INVISIBLE WALLS!!!! I WANNA EXPLORE AN OPENWORLD- probably the coolest thing in a game ive ever seen.... literal abandoned areas)

    I am most definitely missing some stuff, this is just the first things that pop into my head when i think of stuff i miss and wonder wtf why did they take it out???? Did it collide with new things they implemented? Was there no work around to just keep all included? Or do they just wanna see their players sad when they take out cool features that we know and love in our game (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)

    Simple answer: The new Tera playerbase are lazy.


    They claim the old content takes "too much time" off their wonderful time

    But if you invest your time in this garbage game i dont think you can call that "wonderful"
