Upcoming end of migration at 18th - fate of untransferred characters

  • Hello everyone

I would like to ask if there are any information about what we can expect after the 18th of December. As I recall, it is the date when migration from EME will no longer be possible and thus, the not transferred accounts will be lost, accounding to the Migration FAQ

My question is - will the untransferred characters actually be deleted? Or will there be any way to tell if a friend or guild member is not coming back because of not doing the migration? There might be a lot of untransferred characters and thus, taken names, names that army of (fishing) bots were using. We all know the pain of choosing name for characters in MMO and such names will be simply unavailable.

Either way, will there be some sort of way to tell if one got deleted or just taking some long hiatus (while already having transferred)? Something like CharacterName_182093123 that happened when the servers got merged and names were taken by another player? This could surely help guild masters with cleaning up guilds from inactive players/dead accounts. Or, to clean up Friends List. Personally I got some people who haven't been on for a good while, yet still hoping I will see them one day again.

  • my wild guess is :

they are waiting for the migration period to expire and the dust to settle a bit ... and then somewhere in the first half of 2021 they will merge tempest reach and mount tyrannas , we will have the final great name war and on the occasion they will wipe the non migrated accounts :/

  • I just now found out about the move to Game Forge.

I have several characters on my Steam account of Tera. I really do not want to lose this.

Will there be a way to migrate them moving forward... or is all that time and money lost?

If you did not manage to migrate during the specified period, then all your game progress was irretrievably lost.

    Side NOTE:

The issue that appeared during the migraation, was that EME couldn't send itself all the accounts' data to Gameforge, without our consest.

Due to GDPR international laws. So, the players had to do it by themselves

  • That's an excuse. Companies change hands, data changes hands. Maintaining servers of data is cheap.

    Maintaining Migration systems is cheap...

That's a crutch to be lazy.

GDPR is an excuse huh? How about you accept or transfer illegally transmitted data and then get slapped with a giant lawsuit from the EU, and let's see if you change your tone.

  • Dude... No one said transfer illegally. Plenty of options to manage data transfer and authorization that doesn't come with a deadline.

There was literally 2-3 people left at EME and they were there to make sure transfers went smoothly. If I recall, Single.Bear said he was the last person out the door before it was just those 2-3 working remotely to make sure we could migrate correctly, and even then one or two of the remaining three were done working at EME leaving one person the last week of migration to make sure it went to GF's servers safely and correctly.

You're just making excuses at this point. Every possible reason has been given. All you can do now is accept responsibility, man. What's done is done. There was nothing else. You cannot transfer data over-seas unless you have explicit permission from the people who the data is about; you. Maisee already covered the time-frame, and that was plenty enough.

  • lol... responsibility for what exactly? It was my fault that what? No one in my family that has played got notification? That there was no Steam notification either? That EME and GF made excuses rather than made the proper legal arrangements to keep the EME sites live to continue to allow transfers to happen?

Plenty of options exist that don't include a deadline.

  • The announcement was on Steam too. That would have shown up in your news feed even if you didn't access the game. You're out of excuses.

The proper legal arrangements were for EME to get permission from their users to give data to Gameforge. That is what they did. I get the impression you seem to think EME should have just sold the data to Gameforge. Hate to break it to you, but that would have resulted in the exact same situation; they would have still needed user permission to give the data to Gameforge. The GDPR is literally a law enacted to prevent companies from selling/transferring user data without the users' permission (among other things).

And if not Gameforge, then who? Who do you think was going to keep EME sites live? Who do you think was going to maintain users' data indefinitely "just in case"? Who would be paying for it? Where do you think that money would have come from? You keep saying there were plenty of options, but don't actually present any of them.

  • Hello, there were multiple emails from EME and several news posts and reminders in all our platforms since October about the migration, unfortunately there is no way to migrate now if you missed the deadline.
