Ubuntu 19.04 ?

  • Hello,
will ever be TERA on linux? exactly on ubuntu 19.04+ ???? If so, when?
I am trying to run this game on my Ubuntu 19.04 but with no result, it always reports me an error. :cursing:

  • I read a forum post about someone managing to run tera on linux but that was a few years ago, and i didn't really read the entire thing or remember on which forum that post was but If you search the internet you should be able to find how to do it, maybe not on your version but still.

  • You can probably run it through some kind of emulation.

But performance is already bad as is.

  • In general, the best way to play unsupported games on Linux is through a VPS with gpu-passthrough and if you want to set that up maybe look for guides in /r/vfio

I did this once and managed to set it up, it worked pretty good with barely and notice in performance loss, in every game I tried expect Tera

Since Tera is primarily CPU bottlenecked it ran pretty shitty compared to natively on my pc. It worked fine if you disabled the UI though. There may be better ways to optimize cpu usage in QEMU but I didn't have that expertise so I just gave up

The game does work pretty fine with Wine though, if you want to try that

EDIT: If you run the game on Steam, steam has their own wine project called Proton that lets you run games which is way easier to run than manually configuring wine to work. Try that

  • You can run it pretty swell with D9VK, to do so just download Lutris and then search for Tera, then just google how to swap the runner from whatever the packaged installer uses to D9VK (https://github.com/Joshua-Ashton/d9vk) and you'll be good to go, from my experience testing it on different games as well as Tera the performance is on-par for the most part, however it might be unstable due to the list of default d3d9.dlls that comes with the installer so you might have to play around with it until you reach PC-like stability (D9VK comes with their own D3D9.dlls so read up on the github repo which ones you should remove from the wine config on lutris.

EDIT: The game was tested on Arch Linux so your mileage may vary.
