New player questions

  • A lot of people already gave their insights, but I'll try to give you a little advice on the way as well.

Class: For the class choice, I'd probably advice you to go with whatever you feel like, right now. The thing about MMORPG's, such as Tera, is that you most likely won't enjoy the game at all, if you're not picking a class, which you actually enjoy playing to the fullest extend. In my opinion, you should try out different classes. Leveling doesn't take long, and as such it's fairly simple to get several level 65 characters, and I believe you should try out several classes, before you decide on a class.
I am gonna be honest: In terms of a MMORPG, this game needs a lot of love and care, but it has some good features as well, in particular its combat system, however as I said, it also does lack a lot of things, and as such you should be really careful with your class selection, as this will contribute to a huge part of, how much you do or do not enjoy this game.
However, based on your requirements or what you like to play, you should most likely go with Sorceror or Archer. Either one is so-called non-awakened classes, and will deal less DPS than for instance Slayer, Warrior and Berserker, but with a good amount of knowledge and experience, you can probably reach really fair numbers.

Server: I would assume Mystel is your best choice right now.

Extra advice: Find friends or play with friends in general. It is REALLY hard to enjoy, or even get into this game, unless you have friends to play with.

Wtb no downgrades on gear, tyvm.

That's not nearly as easy as you think it is in today's MMOs where no one ever talks to new players.

  • Definitely, I agree on that statement. What you can do, is maybe convince some irl friends, to play with you. Or you can hope to find someone, who's willing to take you ingame - nevertheless, it was just a statement, that you really need someone to play with, else Tera quickly gets boring.

tbh the first step always starts with yourself though.
I use IM a lot and the first step is always a hello
if you don't greet someone and expect them to do the first step it's mostly not gonna happen.
Most of the time you don't get anything back, but sometimes you find nice people and have a good time with them.

the other thing is, that telling people that you're new, some will gladly help you
it's bad to keep quiet if you dunno what you're doing, and you didn't tell anyone you're first timer, or you ask for advice
last week i just had an SC party with a new gunner, he said he's new, which was good. I told them to take all lasers on the second boss, no one said anything, and except for me, half the time no one took it. I understand that the new guy might not have known what's going on, but the other 4 might have...
dmg was really low, wiped at 6% and the newbie left, even though no blame was thrown around.
i noticed how new players give up quite easily, i mean if you don't understand just ask again, it won't hurt

also most of them are in guilds, but apparently they're too shy to ask or sth
i mean you are in a guild to get help at the start and i'm quite sure there are guilds who gladly teach newbies.

Obviously there are rude more experienced players, or some that just dun wanna waste time because they don't have it
There are also newbies when someone tries to help them, they immediately get offended, say they don't care and they don't have a skill like that, and that if you just know everything better, why aren't you playing healer... stuff like that happens too
so obviously not everyone feels like helping after sth like that

everything has two sites, so can't blame everything just on one
    just my two cents :elin31:

  • Thanks actually. Yes, you're absolutely right, a lot of things start with yourself, and how you're interacting with other people. That is definitely true.
Meanwhile, you also mention some players, aren't exactly nice to those people, and that's probably what I was working from: Tera's community isn't in general super nice, and have a tendency to be very harsh against new players, which is why I suggested finding some friends, before he started playing the game. I for one, still remember how it was, when I started totally green at RKE release, and that it was super super hard, to get into the community, and that's what I wrote my statement out from.
But yes, you're absolutely right - you can get a long way with a nice attitude!

  • I already did. I have a priest lvl 65 already. Everything i said is correct. But if you want to enlight me, you are welcome lol.

Check moongourd how much dps can an awakened mystic can make compared to an awakened priest. In 4 stars these damages are negligible (for both so I can't really point out anything here) but at 3 stars you'll see a vague difference between the two of them, in favor to the mystics by a lot.

Whatsup with every1 saying its hard finding friends as a newbie player????
Don't you think that you have some problems?
I have been playing for about a month and something and already in one of the top guilds in my first weeks got dragged in dungeons(that were way out of my gear lvl) by people that i met in game which just wanted to have fun.

Maybe you are doing something wrong or shy to talk to people making the whole game anti-newbie and spreading that around.

But there are hell a lot of guilds that are newbie friendly and accept every1 with veteran players that will gladly answer your questions, also a lot of people that enjoy helping others.
Off course there are those that don't like to help but that doesn't mean every1 is like that...

  • Then explain smth to me. How the hell i saw ninjas, sorcs, valks, etc. in full heroic gear if they cant find a group?if you cant find a group its only the user problem cuz prolly he/she cant play the class properly.

use the meta classes ? zerker is boring class for me, so why i should play that class if it not fun at all for me?

    1) Divine support box
    2) There are veilthrooch's selling runs at the moment, which I also organize
    3) The classes you mentioned are either veteran players with friends and static parties, or top 10 in Moongourd

For a NEW USER, which is the one we're talking about, it is hard to fastly achieve the 3rd statement.
Elitism is real in this game, if a party can save 1 min of clearing time in a run, they most likely pick a CLASS over a PLAYER. Sad but true.

You are so negative it's depressing. Throughout this thread all you have done is say how everything that keeps you from achieving anything in-game is everyone elses fault, and that everything is bad.
    Seriously.
... if you are always like this, I can guarantee you, it's not the others fault that they don't take you with them. It's yours.
Nobody wants to hang out with a negative Nancy during their time off, while doing something that should be fun.
    ... or you're baiting.

As arrogant as ever, I see. It's you who is in denial, go troll somewhere else.

  • Well, tbh, back when I started this game in RKE release, I msut admit that I had a really hard time getting parties for it, and generally dungeons. Granted, I was a super bad player back then, which definitely explains a lot of, why people did not take me, however that does not change the fact, that there is a lot of elitism in this game. Being a part of that elitism myself now, since I seek to clear dungeon ASAP, I can only agree to this statement.
It's not that I consequently deny everyone, and never run with people below 4 m/s. Hell, even I know I'm not perfect, and won't perform that well in every single run, but taking new players or new inexperienced people in runs, is simply just a drag for me most of the time, and thus I simple choose not to run with them. So saying, that this mentality doesn't exist, and that you can just always have a cheerful attitude, and then you can get into any party you want to, is a lie. That's just not how things work in this game, it's a bit sad, but it's true. You have to reach a certain point, before you can just join anything and everything.

  • Welcome to Tera Salamander Ava!
From my expirience with the range classes in tera, i could tell that all of them got its unique survive-abilities and mobility.
If i were you i would try them all (sorcerer, archer and gunner for range dps) and see later which one you would like to gear up.
    Good luck and have fun!

well sorcerer and gunner have to be close otherwise they wont deal good dps overall archer is the only true ranged atm but it's medium DPS class, Zerk or Warrior are the most OP atm, but after 2 month it's gonna be archer so u might aswell start as archer till u get used to the game, it's one of the easiest classes to play,
also trappiez u might consider that not every new player rush to endgame content, i started actually doing endgame content in RMHM patch, even though i started in TSHM but i couldnt do much and i still had to get used to gameplay as i used to play tap target games before it, i say it would take new players atlesat 2 months or more to have a general idea of the game and what they should be doing, 1month if they are experienced game players
