Cannot discard horn

Ask support to delete it.

The reason you can't discard it is because it is part of an upcoming follow-up quest in the next patch, where you will need it again. Yes, it's kind of a bummer considering it will take up that inventory slot, but if you get it removed you won't be able to complete that quest in the future either.

what were they thinking

They'll probably make the item re-obtainable, just like low level quest items or that awakening quest item where you can get as many replacements as you want.

I'd send a ticket to Support asking them to remove my item and change the item properties so that everyone could discard it without having to flood Support with tickets. They did this with the Vessel of the Gods. I'm sure they can do it with this horn thing too.
