All the Armour and Weaponry in TERA possess a certain number of crystal slots. When crystals are inserted into the slots, they offer the chance to turn the tide of an upcoming battle to your favour. The crystal system offers much more flexibility than the typical "+30 str" seen in other games.

Ah, good info!
Just a small question: it doesnt say clear in the text but if you check the description and match with the small picutre/icon of the gems it seems that the blue ones if protective and the red ones is offensive (increases damage somehow)? The only exception is the gem that increases mana that also is marked as red.

ok i like the crystals and all but seriously? dishing out other games bonuses isn't cool specially when all i see is exactly what they say they aren't doing, except for poison all others can be reduced to stats augmentation, even the shield, with the only difference being that they need to meet a certain condition... when i start reading i was expecting something like crowd control or some kind of element manipulation through damage, but it's still "+10 Str"...

They have both simple crystals like "+10 Str" which will be common and easy to find but also more special crystals with unique bonuses, those will be more rare and more likely come from quests and bosses.These Crystals along with the glyph system builds your playstyle.
For example if you are a warrior and you like PvP, you can socket one (or more if possible?) crystals that increase your movement speed and also pick the glyph that has a chance to increase your moving speed under certain conditions, when the glyph proc you're going ninja on your enemy! Or you can built something more balanced using glyphs that increase your skills damage and a crystal that shields you when you are knocked down.In my opinion TERA's combination of crystal and glyph system achieve the goal every game sets to itself (personalization of the way that people can play the same class, but with diferent playstyles) with the best results than any other game that uses gems, tallents, glyphs, enchants, or whatever else. WoW has recently changed the tallent system hoping to achieve this goal but now the final build for each class and spec can only be 1, it's even worse than before. [I'm not a WoW hater and neither a WoW fanboy, I'm still playing WoW and I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible each time I compare the 2 games]

I can imagine tons of money spend on purchasing those crystals and two...three...four weapon sets... -

Unless if they make them bind on pickup and they are obtainable only from bosses and quests. They may also be unique so you can equip only 1 of each, or even unique on their category... by that I mean 1 special crystal on armor and 1 for weapon, so you can't have both critical damage boost and general damage boost while under 50% HP (example on Berseker crystals). some crystals will be obtainable only for raid tickets, remember? You can always buy those -
