returning player, what class?

  • so i have been gone from Tera since the Brawler got released, and planning on playing it abit agian every now and then.

only question is: what class fits me?

throughout the time i have played a sorcerer (to squishy and had a tedious combat style to me), slayer (did like the class, but uncertain if its for me in the long run) and reaper (didnt play much)

i am looking for a fairly allrounded class that can participate in most activites like PvE/arena/castle siege and so on.
tank/healer i dont know if it would be for me, as it seems difficult to maintain mana as healer and tanking i think requires some time and patience to learn?

i do not have a preferance between ranged & melee, only class i absolutely do now wish to play is the sorcerer.
my playstyle is mostly towards faster paced combat.

  • We had a similar thread where I gave my 2 cents to the OP. Read more about that here:
Which Class would fit my playstyle?

To be more on topic by answering questions:

Healers are usually a good choice if you wish to participate in everything as they are needed everywhere. If you want to have a DPS char instead, I would recommend archer however they are a bit slow because of their charging skills. Slayer is faster and if you wish for an even faster class then you should try Warrior.

Mana management is quite easy on Priest as you'll have ~20-25 seconds of CD and you can replenish 48% of their mana. Whenever someone bursts damage during enrage (like Lancers activating Adrenaline rush and everyone goes Sonic), you use this skill when party mana goes below ~50-60%. Not much more you can do besides that (maybe Restorative burst can give 250 mana o.o). So timing is important! ^-^/
Mystic is a bit more challenging as their mana replenishment scales with the amount of players around. But overall they can give a lot more mana than Priests.

About tanking, yes. It takes some time to learn because if you don't know the boss moves then you're not doing damage, if you're not doing damage you might have problems holding aggro and problems will start to accumulate at that point. If you wish to try tanking, I'd recommend using Lancer. Their damage might be lower but they have better chances keeping aggro because of the glyphs and you use RE for blocking and iframes (2000 max and 650/use). Just don't give up on lower levels! :> Bosses hit quite hard and healers don't heal quite as much. Don't stress yourself over a few deaths. :s

  • were looking around abit after posting this thread, mostly on PvP videos because to me theres where classes often show how they are compared to PvP in MMOs.

ninjas & valkyries looks pretty awesome in PvP, but like you stated in the thread you linked, ninjas are not that good in terms of DPS these days.
but how bad is the state on ninjas?
valks as you say is OP right now due to being new, but i doubt they will be nerfed/changed so much that they will be bad.

if i were to tank i would probably go for a lancer, i have not really seen a brawler tank only a warrior besides lancer.
a lancer is a real tank in my eyes, they block the damage instead of avoiding so that would be my go to choice if that were the case.

but from looking around bit i would probably end up deciding between ninja, valkyrie and maybe slayer if the 2 others do not work out.

  • Ninjas are bad but will get buffed a little next patch (probably in August?) so I guess you can pick them if you want to. :> By the time you gear/level her up to 65 the patch will come. But keep in mind that I was talking about damage PvE wise, not PvP. With all their CC skills, Ninjas are still quite viable. Just don't make mistakes with, they have cloth armour. x)

We have no information about upcoming class balances (besides the ones in August). Valkyries only get their PvP damage reduced and Backstab CD will be doubled (only in PvP).

  • okay sounds good :) might just play both a bit and see how i like them...

and i definately understand the valkyrie nerf to PvP... hitting 30k+ in PvP seems abit to OP

  • went for a valk for now, only lvl 26 tho, but they feel amazing!
very smooth playstyle and nice skills with potential good dodge mechanics... reminds me alot of warriors back around release where they could just dodge everything with animations... they prob still can i assume :D
