Things you wish you had known about TERA when you started

  • Add your tips, never know whom it might be useful for.

*Veteran Package. Yep, I am being all corporate-evil by starting off with the P2W package.
But in this game - having a club for leveling and a veteran status for the rest of your life is actually 300% worth it. Consider it as a one-time payment for the game, you can get it for 11-20 euros. But not to worry, the game is completely well playable without it as well.

*Join an active, social guild as soon as you can. It will not provide any in-game benefits, but having a bit of a human touch and perhaps even some support and aid from higher level players can make the game much more fun. Just see if anyone on global is advertising that they are recruiting - whisper that person and ask to be joined.

*You can easily get to level 65 by skipping all the yellow quests. You can save time by just following the red quests and using Instance Matching to get a party for Dungeons.
**Yellow quests can be very boring, so, knowing that you will not really miss out on anything when you skip them might make you feel a bit more relaxed.
**If you are interested in achievement hunting, though - do EVERYTHING. ALL quests. Just be warned that it takes a lot of time, these quests are sorta repetitive and get boring after a while. But I personally liked doing everything :)
**All open-world yellow quests are solo-able.
**Don't get trapped by dungeon repeatable quests - feel free to discard them and move on when you are done doing some dungeon.

*If you have a Teleport Journal (if you joined club or got it somehow from questing), save these locations:

**Save a location at any NPC that somehow indicates that you will have to return to them after you are done killing someone / gathering something (usually "Prefects" in villages).
***When done with the quest chain at that area, delete it from your saved locations.
These three locations from the big cities I know for 100% you will have to keep going back to (even when done with quests on the continent)
**Samael and Seir's office at Velika
    **Fraya's office at Allmantheia
**Kaiator Headquarters (after going back there for the 2nd time)
***To these three locations you will have to go back to every now-and-then due to the Red Quest Chains - you'd save a lot of time by having these locations in your journal. No need to separately seek them out - just save the locations upon your inital encounter when you are talking with those NPCs.

*You can get to all villages and cities via Village Atlas (if you joined club or got it somehow from questing).
If you want to travel by pegasus instead, be my guest.
***When you have done 50 pegasus/dragon flights you will get an achievement. The achievement will give you a big fistful on nothing.
**Merchants in cities sell Village Scrolls for all surrounding villages on the same continent.

*You can get to all camps using Teleportal machines in all Villages. They cost a bit of coin, but it saves time and nerve - if you want to travel by mount instead, be my guest.

*You can get to all dungeons via Instance Matching. All dungeons are also accessible from the map via specific Teleportal Machines.
**All "Special Merchants" sell ALL dungeon scrolls which allow you to teleport in front of named dungeons from ANY location.

***Village Atlas, Teleport Journal, City Scrolls, Village Scrolls, Camp Scrolls, Dungeon Scrolls - all these teleport items are usable even in instances (out of combat).

***Apparently we also have a few skills for teleporting to main cities (I never used them x.x).

    ***Using the "Unstuck" feature
from your main menu gear tab you will teleport to the nearest village re-spawn location (it has a long cooldown, but can be used efficiently to get back to some town after you are done with a quest or a dungeon).

*You can discard or vendor (sell to merchant) all weird scrolls and recepies that drop from big monsters and dungeon mons, bosses - you will never need them.

*You can dismantle all weapons that are not "Avatar" - you will not need them and you WILL need the feedstock that comes out of them.
*You can dismantle all gear pieces that are not better than the one you are currently wearing - you will never need them and you will need the feedstock they give.

*You can either discard or combine crystals that you don't need or want anymore - save your inventory space. You will not need anything else until you reach level 65 - just Blue Hardy for gear, Red Pounding for weapon. If you are clever enough to attack monsters from behind, Red Bitter also helps doing more damage.

*You don't need to buy anything! Nope, not any crystals, potions, buff-items or gear - quests and levelling achievements will give those to you for free.

*You will get a new Avatar Weapon every few levels -
these are the best weapons for levelling. You get pieces dropped from all kinds of mobs when you casually do your Red Quests - you will never have to stay and stop to "grind" any types of mobs to get the pieces you need - just follow the drops at a natural pace.
**The Avatar Weapons are really the only thing you need to be enchanting. It is not a big deal if you don't +9 it every time - sometimes you will run out of feedstock or alkahest - DO NOT buy those, just wait until more drops.

*You can skip "enchanting gear" as you will be swapping it out every few levels anyway. However, when you feel you are taking too many hits and they hit hard, OR when your itemlevel is too low to participate in an Instance Matching dungeon, do consider getting robe, shoes, gloves to +9.

*Use your skill points as soon as you can - do not worry if you are using it on the wrong thing - you can reset the glyph tree any time for no cost and use the points on other skills.

*Upgrade your skills as soon as you can - you are going to have to upgrade them all, eventually.

*Use up your Production Points by gathering Rocks, Plants, Energy - it will advance your gathering skills. You don't really need to do looking for gathering spots, just casually walk to the ones that come up while you do your story quest.
**Scarabs, God's Tear, Gaelic Spark - gather them a while and sell those over Trade Broker - endgame players need these and they cost a lot. You can make a lot of gold this way.
**All other Ores, Plants, Essences - they are not worth much - you can either keep them, discard them, vendor them - or if you have enough space in your Trade Broker, feel free to try and Broker them as well, even though they are not much worth at all.
**Coloring materials - worthless, but can do the same as with ores-plants-essences.

*You don't have to worry about crafting skills before you hit 65. Just skip them for now - too much information and zero benefits.

*PVP server (Killian) is fine - there is not really much PK going on in the levelling areas. I avoided it due to the fear of getting killed when not interested in PvP.

  • Joke's on you but I knew almost all of them because I actually did my research before diving in but good work writing those down, people should add more if they feel like it.

  • Nice done

    three additional things

*Join an active, social guild as soon as you can. It will not provide any in-game benefits, but having a bit of a human touch and perhaps even some support and aid from higher level players can make the game much more fun. Just see if anyone on global is advertising that they are recruiting - whisper that person and ask to be joined.

To make that clear, human touch will not help you in any way in this game. Depending where you are it will make things worse.
Reading some guides, common sense and some good reflexes will be much more of use. :P

*Don't get trapped by dungeon repeatable quests - feel free to discard them and move on when you are done doing some dungeon.

There will be maybe a point where you don't get new quests. That means your questbook (L) is full and you should delete the quests hat are under your lvl.

PVP server (Killian) is fine - there is not really much PK going on in the levelling areas. I avoided it due to the fear of getting killed when not interested in PvP.

Switch the channel after you reach an area. Most ppl hunting lowlvl on channel 1. If you see someone in red anywhere and no safe zone is near you can use /unstuck to escape fast.

  • Well its a nice post i gotta admit it but if they did no research they will not be checking this forum either

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD if you are starting the game you can ask people for BUDDY UP code before you reach level9 which wiill give you XP boosters, extra gold every 10 lvl + 7day free mount and some other benefits like 7day fashion outfits. It might be hard for you to directly ask someone INGAME becaouse you cant use GLOBAL chat untill level 20?ish so i would recommend registering on forum and making a topic

IF YOU SEE THIS AND DECIDE TO JOIN ON MYSTEL FEEL FREE TO WHISPER ( YOU WRITE THIS /WHISPER OR /W ZAZWRAITH ) or send PM on forum i can give you some starting gold+buddy up and some low level heals which greatly help you early on especially if you are new to the game.

    cheers
