  • PLEASE, CHECK Updated CS In-depth Guide - For CS Love! For the updated version of this guide!

    Hello ladies and gentlemen!

This is Matrixo from Server: Killian/Current Guild: pvp. After the 3v3/ pvp understanding guide post by Flanberry, the AllianceGuide, Content Walkthrough and Summary by Pandalf, the SeasonsStatistics by Lupulsaiu(sadly he stopped!), the 1vs1Tournament by exiled92 and many other threads that help making this game more active and improve the community a bit. I would like to contribute to this process by writing an advanced guide about CS after seeing how a team can be so pathetic there! So, don't make this thread a reason for you to hate me xD its just some advices and opinions. Feel free to add to it, judge it and comment if you want. Please, be a positive person and don't cause rage!

Before we start this topic, you should all know that the only purpose of me writing this is to improve players in cs (corsairs stronghold). This might be late, as the game is dying and might die more when Blade and souls or Black desert comes out. Its true that brawler patch revived it a bit, but how much will this last? I really hope Gameforge take some serious actions about the game itself not the costumes shop. Anyway, If you don't know cs (or its rules and basics), then you should go read this site's guide . You can also watch the video guide created by DeviliciousAngel here , it covers many stuff that I didn't speak about here: basic elements, how stuff work and some stratigies in 5 mins. I'm not here to give basics! I'm here to guide doing cs!

What you will read is just my experience in cs, as well as from watching videos of other players around and talking with other people about CS. You might have different point(s) of view or some criticism about what you will read. Of course, that's normal, we are humans after all. Feel free to add/edit/comment/judge to any part in this post. But remember to be positive, aiming to correct me if I was wrong or to teach other people, including myself.

As I said before, the only purpose of this post is to improve players in cs (both leader and raid members) leading to more competitive matches that people will enjoy. I hesitated a lot before writing this, but after seeing just how pathetic a team can perform in cs, I felt that I should try to write this post in the hope to fit its purpose mentioned before.

  • 1- CS, PVP or PVE or non?
Despite the fact that CS now belongs to the PVE crusade, you can see people consider it as a PVP battleground! So what do you think about it? Is it PVP or PVE battleground? Take a few seconds to answer that question yourself, then continue reading.

If your answer was PVE, then you might have been thinking about the rotations to DPS the gate, use siege weapons and organizing team. Of course, not a lot of PVP players like that stuff, except leading, may be. If your answer was PVP, then you have been thinking about the fights that occur at gates, the fights to capture mid, airing and protecting inner ladders. Of course, not a lot of PVE players like those stuff, except for the protecting ladder, may be.

For me, I would say without hesitation, cs is neither a PVE nor a PVP battleground! Its is a TEAM WORK battle ground! The fact that its an equalized battleground with a good reward makes it different from FW (The P2W battleground), 3v3 (Wanna know how aggressive is the community, just go there) and Gridiron (The high ping, low fps, un-equalized battleground). Kumasylum is dead, so I will not talk about it, but it was pretty active back when it is available for low levels. I honestly believe that one of the main reasons why people are still playing tera is CS! And you have the right to not accept it. CS is where both PVP and PVE players are needed. Each has his/her own role and all should cooperate for achieving the goal: destroying the crystal. Its a well designed battleground that I really respect those who created it.

I saw both PVP and PVE raids in cs. And trust me, things can go really bad for both. For a PVE raid, players are well organized. When the leader say 3-1-3, you can see clearly 3 persons at each inner ladder and 1 in inner tank. The only problem is their lack of PVP experience which makes the raid easily defeatable. But they can still win if they use the siege weapons and bombs well enough. For a PVP raid, players can effectively fight the other raid, they also have a good chance to win. But the problem is that they easily lose focus. For example, they leave DPS-ing the gate in order to get more kills, they leave inner without protection and when inner gate is down, they don't wanna go through the gate cause they don't wanna die. Its also hard to see leader's raid notice while fighting.

So, I'd say teamwork is what counts in CS. A good balance of pve and pvp is the key.

  • 2- Crystals
I will not talk a lot about crystals, you should all know about it. CS is an equalized battleground. This means crystals matter! (I sometimes feel that item level and your current level matters too, but I don't know! If someone here know about both, please share your knowledge with us here.)

Anyway, lets return back to our crystals topic. Whether you are a PVP player or a PVE player you should always have PVP crystals set! Why PVP crystals? Cause you will fight no doubt! Why not PVE crystals? Cause gate and crystal are no longer considered as mobs, so pounding crystals will not affect it anymore (The update before the brawler patch). So as in dungeons or 3v3, you should respect other people by bringing your crystals! Unlike dungeons, you don't need a complete crystal bind to protect your crystals from being broken upon death. For this reason, you should bring your best crystals and don't be afraid to die!

    3- Charms
A raid without charms, is a short life raid! Yes, you easily die if you are not charmed!

Its not the leader responsibility to charm, its the responsibility of the whole raid including the leader. So, if you have charms in your inventory, then please share them with your raid!

But the question is what charms should we use?
I would say, it depends on the situation:
    - The common used ones for attack are Power, Infused and Mirror (Reverse).
    - The common used ones for defense are Power, Infused and Endurance.

But there are situations that you could use other combinations of charms, like Keen charm instead of power for fast DPS-ing the gate, or swift charm if you are going to ninja. So yes, it depends on the situation and the leader plan, but you should always know the common used ones for attack and defense.

I will not talk a lot about charms, you should already have a good knowledge about it just like crystals.

    Question that might be interesting:

Do you think you can pass inner ladders with speed crystals and swift charm?

  • 4- The Leader
If we are going to give a definition for the leader then it might be as follow:

'The calm, adapting person who manage the raid by saying the plan clearly, use Scan skill when possible/necessary, watch the map and take decisions based on the enemy team actions as well as his/her raid actions.'

I don't know if this definition covers all of the leader responsibilities, but lets just go ahead and discuss it in depth.

Leader is the calm person. If the leader starts to panic, then probably most of the other raidmembers will do panic. If leader become angry, the whole raid will feel uncomfortable. You should always be calm while leading, this allow you to make good decisions. Just remember, its a game! So you should enjoy it, let others enjoy it and aim to a gg. Always put this in your mind “Expect to lose, do your best to win!”

Leader is the adapting person. Yes, you should adapt to the different situations when something unexpected happens. For example, you said '20/20 north gate' and all people went south gate. Don't get angry for that, just adapt to the situation, if they want south gate, then let it be. If your plan fail, just calm down, calm the raid down and re-plan. Its easy to say, but you should do it!

Leader should state the plan clearly, regardless of the fact that people in the raid, most of them if not all, know the basic strategies for attack and defense (not a very valid assumption!). Don't be lazy to say 20/20 north gate or 3-1-3 inner, people know it yes but they just need you to say it! Also you should be clear about what you say! For example, you might say '5 go air' the obvious question here is which airship to use? Is it south airship or north one? Should the air people aim to back crit gate or go for the anchor stone (crystal)? Or should it go for mid? See its not clear! You should state every word you say clearly to drop the ambiguity from your words!

Leader use Scan skill when possible/necessary. If you don't know how to use the Scan skill, then its as follow:
Open map (default key is 'm'), the Scan skill is on the top left corner of the map.
If you can't see it, then you are bugged! The common solution here is to pass lead to someone and that someone pass it back to you.

As you may know, Scan skill used to locate enemy on map. It is very useful for discovering what the enemy raid aim to do and you should take actions based on that. It is also useful for your raid to know whats going on. You should scan after gate is down. You should scan when your air is about to approach inner. You should scan if enemy went inner and your raid don't respond to you. You should scan before taking critical decisions. You should scan if necessary. You should scan when its possible. You should scan if a raid member asked you to scan.

Sometimes you will be in a situation when you can't scan right now. For example, you are standing at left ladder and someone is climbing, if you scanned then you will be locked in animation giving the climber a very good chance to pass you to inner. Another example, is when you are surrounded by enemy, if you scanned and someone attacked you then say bye bye to your scan results on map.

Another powerful thing about scan, is that you can detect air before it start or arrive, you can also see if mid/inner ladder is free or not. Just watch the map carefully when scanning!

Leader is the one who watch the map and take decisions based on the enemy team actions as well as his/her raid actions. Yes, your decisions should be based on both your team actions and your enemy actions. You can't ignore having a weak inner. You can't ignore having an empty mid. You can't ignore enemy team climbing a ladder or going for mid. It's your decision that guide people what to do now, so don't rush and think carefully! Also, don't ignore people talking to you! They might know something you don't know. For example, a raid member said 'they are climbing outer north ladder' you should also take actions based on your comrades. Also, you might be mistaken sometimes and a teammate might try to help you, so you should listen to him. In the end, leader can't cause a win alone, but all team members contribute to it!

    What if you can't lead?

Simply, you just ask if someone can lead cause you can't. Explain clearly that you can't lead! If someone asked you to pass him/her then do so. If no one reply, then its your chance to learn how to lead! Don't pass lead randomly, the whole raid might lose cause of that! Don't panic, don't be angry. No one wanted to carry the leader responsibility so no one have the rights to blame you! Just give it your best until you learn it! You can do it!

What if you don't want to lead? (You are mostly a healer!)

You might be a healer that want to heal instead of looking at map and speaking in raid chat, you might have other reasons not to lead. Anyway, the answer still the same as for the question above. For healers, its best for them to only heal, but they can lead too anyway. If you can't do both, then just choose one! So the point I want to say is that, its possible to lead even if you are a healer.

In the end, I would say, regardless of your style, you just have to make sure that you and your raid are having fun and giving all for a gg. Don't restrict yourself to any advice. Just think logically and plan for your team. Always remember “Expect to lose, do your best to win!”

  • 5- The Raid!
After talking about the leader, lets talk about the raid members. What do you think about being a raid member? Are you supposed to only follow the leader plan? Take some seconds to answer those questions yourself.

Being a raid member is also a responsibility. First of all, you should have the required crystals and the good ones! Don't ever stand to protect inner ladders if you don't have the required crystals for this. You should also have a good understanding of cs and how things go around. You should follow leader's commands and plan, but sometimes you should take your own decisions. For example, if the leaders plan is to DPS south gate and you think the other team is not an easy one, so you decided to go capture north pyre and bring a tank on your way to south too as a backup-plan. If you think the leader is mistaken then you should tell him politely and don't make a rage in the raid. You might lose cause of this rage! You might also be the mistaken one. But yes, leader is a human too and he make mistakes. So try to guide not to order and adapt with the situation. The top priority is to follow the leaders plan, other wise you will see chaos in your raid. People who don't follow
leaders in military considered traitors and might get a death sentence. So yes its critical to follow one man. In the end you, should act smart. Don't cause a rage in your raid and take suitable actions.

    6- Raid chat
The common way of communication between the whole raid members.

For leader, raid chat is the unique way to set his plan. Leader should be clear while speaking in his/her raid chat. State the plan clearly. Spam if people didn't listen or if there is a critical situation! But don't spam much, just fill the chat box with only your message. People ignore chat when they fight, so spamming help them wake up and realize the situation. Also, make your raid chat fun. Don't humiliate players! Don't get angry! Don't over joking! Just be in the middle of all that! Tell the raid the mistake they did after you lose a round!

For raid members, including the leader, what I noticed is that people keep trash talk to each other when they lose a round or when a critical situation occur. This increase the tension and rage in the team and might cause a lose. For example, someone said 'okay, lost' before the 1st round even start, this only will add negative feeling in the team, increasing the chance to lose, not allowing people to give their best! Take care of all your words, words can really cut people! Its a game yes, but players are human with feelings (this include wrath and pride, 2 of the man's deadly sins xD). They are not NPCs!

7- The Siege Weapons (Cannons and Tanks)!
Oooh, siege weapons. Players really underestimate this huge power. You should make sure you get benefit of those siege weapons (positioning and fire power/rate) otherwise your enemy will use it.

In case of attacking, the attacker team should use tanks to block at gate well, otherwise they will be easy targets for defenders mid siege and defenders pvpers. You can imagine it easily, you are hitting the gate which is in front of you, mid seige is hitting you from your side, defender pvpers attacking you from your side. Its an easy wipe at gate. Blocking with tanks save your team from that. You should bring those tanks to gate as soon as possible. If any of the 2 tanks got destroyed on the way, just repair it and keep moving towards the gate. Players DPS-ing the gate should make the way clear for tanks to move! Its a critical time while DPS-ing the gate, so don't lose to that! The raid should protect the tanks while making the block. Also, after the gate is down, you can move those tanks with you to mid or to inner gate or just let them outside and shoot mid cannons using them in order to help your team capturing mid.

In case of defending, the defender team has 3 tanks: 2 at mid, 1 inner tank and 4 cannons: 2 at mid, 2 at crystal. So a total of 7 siege weapons. You should use the 4 siege at mid. Mid Cannons should shoot enemy at gate as well as shoot air coming. It should also shoot at enemy team when they are going to capture mid. The 2 mid tanks also should shoot enemy at gate and shoot air coming. The additional thing that mid tanks should do, is to block at mid pyre when the outer gate is down. This means both tanks stick to the pyre so that its harder for the enemy team to capture it. For the inner tank, it should focus on shooting on left air when it comes, shooting at ladders when in a dangerous situation as well as shooting at mid when enemy team is going for it. If the enemy ignored mid and went for inner gate, in this case defenders should use the 2 crystal cannons, the 4 siege weapons at mid to shoot them at gate. Its a real huge power! Thats why going for inner gate alone after outer gate might be a risky decision. If inner gate is down, the 2 inner cannons should only shoot the enemy coming from gate, not from left ladder, not from right ladder, not at crystal, ONLY from gate! If those cannons are destroyed, the raid members should repair it as fast as possible. Its so powerful to defend inner gate with the 2 inner cannons. Crystal is lost, once you lose those two cannons!

As you can see, its a huge power that people just ignore! The fact that there is unbalanced teams in cs can be overcome by using the power of the siege weapons. So don't panic when you get in a weak team, just use your resources wisely. Thats what make cs a unique battleground.

There are also 2 cannon towers for the attackers, but I never saw anyone using it before. I might think of some strategies for these towers latter on.

In the end, I would say its better to die inside those siege than to give your enemy the opportunity to use it!

  • 8- Airing
Flying is a great thing, but what happen when your ship crash? Two options: survive or die. As we know, there are 3 airships in cs. 1 for the defender and 2 for the attackers. You should know the path of all of those ships.

For defenders, the lonely ship can be helpful to get from inner to mid so fast. It can be used to land an attack on mid after the enemy capture it or just to travel to mid without jumping from inner.

For attackers, airship is a way to pass castle walls. Left airship or north airship whatever, name you prefer, passes over north gate and proceed in front of left ladder then inner gate then go back to where it has been. Right airship or south airship go throw mid pyre to inner left ladder then go back to where it has been. Left airship can got shoot from mid left tank and mid left cannon. While right airship can get shoot from mid both cannons and both tanks and inner tank as well, so yes its more dangerous to use it cause its a key for an easy fast win. But airships are very powerful to make a fast win or to kill gate faster or capture mid. So its better to use it.

What is a good airing team? (For attackers)
I would say 1 healer + 1 lancer + 3 dps/dd. If that team passed to inner, its a win for sure!

In the end, I want to mention that attackers can't use defenders airship and defenders can't use attackers airship. (I tried that myself)

    9- Ladders
Another way for the attackers to enter the castle. Another place defenders should protect well. There are 4 ladders on the outer wall and 2 ladders on the inner wall.

For defenders, they should keep inner ladder safe otherwise a direct path to the crystal is widely open. Also the outer ladders should be safe, but its not as critical as inner ladders. The only advice here for the defenders is that don't jump recklessly from outer wall until you locate your enemy and made sure that they are not going to climb outer ladder. Also, CARE FOR INNER LADDERS OR LOSE!

For attackers, they can use outer ladders to go behind the gate for back crit, also to go for mid or or go for inner gate or just to mass rush inner ladder. Also, left inner ladder climbers can synchronize climbing with right airship arrival creating a high chance for a fast win. Anyway, its dangerous to just climb when the enemy at the ladders top. So, make a wise decision whether to climb or not. Its always possible to climb if there are 1 enemy at the top. 2 enemy is a bit harder but still possible. 3 enemy, forget about climbing, you can't climb!

Another thing I wanted to mention is that, while climbing a ladder, don't stick over each other! Its better if you climbed one over another, than the whole raid in the same spot. The reason is that skills in Tera don't distribute the damage among the players in range! Its the same damage for all players! You can imagine a sorcerer use a Fire blast on all those who climbed the ladder and are on the top spot now! Climbing one over another, help you to reduce the defenders DPS, so the people climbing after you would be able to pass easily!

Also, if you are defending the ladder. You should care for your DPS, don't over do it, don't waste it! Use your skills wisely! For example, a sorcerer shouldn't place a stun trap in front of the ladder, just wait for the enemy to land to stun him/her, otherwise she/he can easily avoid it!

    10- Bombs
I personally don't like it, but its powerful in some situations. Bombs are effective to turn the table upside down for the sake of your team. If you think you are not effective in the battle or you can't pvp well or you are a low level with weak crystals or you want to make a huge damage with a single key press, then use bombs.

Its a win for you if you killed more than 1 enemy using 1 bomb. You can use bombs when crystal is under attack. You can use bombs when your team is under attack while DPS-ing the gate. You can use bombs to help at attacking/defending mid. You can use bombs to clear enemy attacking your inner/outer gate. You can use bombs to kill climbers at ladders. I don't have much experience with bombs, but what I saw is that its useful and there are achievements for using it too (lel). If you have more experience, please share with us.

    11- Group PVP
I will speak here about some thing very obvious, but important. I suppose some of you know this too. How to pvp in a group? Its a simple question for players in pvp guilds that experienced a lot of gvg, those who queue FW and Gridiron and those who do death matches. What I'm talking about here, is how to use your group skills efficiently to give a sure death to your opponent!

I'm not well experienced in this, but I will tell you what I know.

    AOE damage:
In Tera, the damage don't split among people in skill range! They all got the same damage as if the skill is applied to each of them alone. A good sorcerer should use his Fire blast well to ensure a huge damage to the enemy raid! Same goes for all AOE skills! Try maximizing the damage by hitting more enemy!

    Chains (Peels):
We all know, Zerk's KD chain! You can't get out of it unless your retaliate skill is not in cd! But what if there are 2 Zerk's and they chain their KD on you. Yah, you are dead. The same goes for all classes. You can chain stuns too, to ensure your mates DPS the enemy you stun. For example, a warrior backstap an enemy and stunned him, then after 2 sec, a sorc stunned the same guy. Its a 7 sec stun, while dpsing that guy!

    Disable other people skills:
Make sure you chain your skills in order not to disable other people skills! You should know well that, KD cancel stun! Sleep cancel stun! The only thing you are allowed while stunning someone is to DPS that guy without KD-ing him. 1 hit cancel Sleep, so make it an OP back crit hit!

    Lancers Giga Leash:
I'm not that familiar with lancers, but according to a friend the giga leash is the one where lancer pulls all enemy around him into him. It follow a single leash (leash that pull a single enemy into him). Lancers get mad if their team wasted their leash well. Its like a waste of a giga leash! Make sure you dps those people pulled into that lancer! A Fire blast with over channel will be enough to cause huge damage to those people. A Stun will be good too. Just don't waste this lancer effort!

    Healers:
Healers are a critical element in the battleground. They control the survivability of the raid! Healers should know well how and when to use their skill, like Arise when a siege shoot or Kaia when inner gate down and passing to inner. They should also focus their healing on the critical places, like dpsing the gate or capturing mid pyre. If you are a healer, then don't go wonder around following a guy from your raid! Yah, that mean don't be a trash pocket healer who only care about her/his pocket DPS! Make sure to rebuff people, they might have died and lost buffs! Play well, you are an essential support class!

I guess thats all I know, there might be more but as I said I'm not that experience in those stuff. Will be great if someone explain it more!

  • 12- Basic strategies and analysis
After the long talk about CS basic elements, here we come to the fun part. The strategies! I will first talk about the simple well known strategies that all people should know. After that, I will proceed to the more advanced ones, which is another reason to create this post.

Despite the fact that the leader is the one to say the plan, all raid members should understand the different parts of the plan well in order to act as expected. The truth is that leader will not explain all the stuff! You need to have a basic knowledge about what should you do in different situations. So you should understand the strategy analysis as well.

My first approach for writing this section was like that:
    1- Identify cases
    We have 4 cases:
    - Attackers, 1st round
    - Defenders, 1st round
    - Attackers, 2nd round
    - Defenders, 2nd round
2- Write different combination of plans for all those cases!

Unfortunately, this is inapplicable, time consuming, full of redundancy and not necessary! I got bored after finishing the 1st case with all its basic plans. So I thought about another approach! Listing the basic actions and activities, that should be carried on, regardless of the plan. Since actions and activities are plan and situation dependent, I guess it they will not be completely separated. Well, I don't know what will happen, but I will go on typing anyway.

I will divide this section into two subsections, attackers and defenders. Lets go!

    Attackers

    Breaking down an outer gate:
When your raid is marching for north or south in order to break the gate there, there should be 2 people bringing tanks to block at gate, as we said before, you might got wiped at gate if your tanks are not blocking. The reason for that, is your team concentrate their DPS to the gate, while the enemy is shooting them from mid and the enemy PVP-ers are attacking your team from the same side that the siege weapons are shooting from. So its an easy wipe! Its critically important to block gate with tanks if you are going to DPS the gate. Tanks should only focus on moving towards the gate to block. Raid people should protect the tanks while moving to gate! If by any chance the tank got killed before blocking at gate, then you should repair it and continue moving! The block at gate is a must!

How to block with tanks at gate?
You put the tanks one after the other, attached together and the 1st tank is attached to the wall next to the gate, from the side which the mid cannon is shooting from. So for north gate, you block at gate's right side, for south gate you block at gate's left side.

Its important to stay in the tank until it get low HP or you just die inside it. Don't give the enemy a chance to back off the tanks and remove the block! If you find an enemy repairing the tank, kill him!

While moving the tank, you should not focus on shooting mid cannon or shooting the gate. Just focus on moving and making a good block.

Two people should capture the pyre and protect it if necessary. You really don't want to DPS the gate without a pyre near you and you don't want to lose your pyre while DPSing. Better if they are melee classes protecting the pyre. A warrior and a lancer would be a good combination.

Healers should be only at gate, don't help those PVPing nonsense from your team! Those who chase after enemy are no good for your raid. Help those who are trying to break the gate down! Help those who are trying to protect people DPS-ing the gate! Also, you should not only pocket heal your premade! Its a reason why raids lose in cs, pocket healers! You will PVP more while defending, not while attacking!

There is still the problem of defenders PVPers, I would say if you are a sorcerer or an archer then place your traps to contain the people that DPS the gate. Some melee classes should fight also to protect the DPS classes, but just don't chase or move far away from the gate. (Reasonable PVP-ing at the gate is a must too!)

Last thing, if you feel that some of the enemy raid are DPS-ing you from behind the gate, thats a no problem then. Its better for you, reducing number of enemy in front of gate.

When the gate is down, leader should scan in order to determine the next action! If 2 or less people at a ladder, your next action is to climb that ladder! If mid is empty or have small number of enemy, then your next action is to capture mid. If Both mid and ladders are safe! Then just go for inner gate and send 1 party to kill mid siege and distract enemy, they might be able to capture mid too!

    - Tanks didn't do a nice block at gate
In this case, you have two options: Repair tanks and keep moving them! Or Ignore gate and try to go for mid (most recommended) or inner! As you can see both options are risky, especially if you still in round 1. You might still be able to destroy the gate somehow, so its not over yet! Don't give up, and make a nice decision.

    - Outer pyre is lost
So your raid was distracted by DPS-ing the gate and you lost outer pyre. In this case, if you already have a nice block with tanks at gate, then just send a party to re-cap the pyre while the rest people are DPS-ing the gate.
If this happen while you don't have a nice block with tanks at gate, then its a wipe at gate! Your team didn't do well! You should consider climbing for mid (most recommended) or inner!

    Climbing a ladder
Whether you are going to climb outer ladders or inner ladders you should know that damage in Tera don't split among players in the skill range. This mean, if the 20 players of your raid are climbing a ladder and reached the top at the same time, and enemy attack with any skill, for example fire blast, then the damage of this skill will apply on all the players climbing! As a result of that, you should not be at the same spot of the ladder in the same time! This means, its better if you reached the ladder top one after another! This will result in a waste of defenders DPS and more chance to pass ladder! You can also use tank(s) to shoot enemy at the top of the ladder while your raid is climbing. Those points applies to any ladder, outer or inner.

    Airing
If you are going to air, then you are going for any of the following activities:

    1- Back crit the gate
This will help getting the gate down faster. Also, those airing people might got attacked by 1 or more of the enemy team, but if they are good they can manage to survive. Please notice that Pounding crystals are no longer affecting gate or crystal!

Mostly, you go left air, if your team is going to DPS north gate. If your team is going for south gate, then don't use right air! Use ladders next to south gate instead! The reason is that, in case of left air, the airship passes over north gate, this doesn't occur in case of right air! You better save right airship for a last attack in the end! Also, if you used right air, you will notify the enemy about their inner, this means they will focus more on protecting inner ladders and mid!

If a priest was with the back crit team, then he/she should try to grip people from outside to increase number of people back critting the gate.

  • 2- Capture mid pyre
This will help boost the progress of the raid, by capturing mid pyre. Your team will be able to spawn in the castle. But, it's risky to go for mid, as enemy team might be there already. If you are lucky and was able to capture mid, your team should climb ladders to mid and secure it. Make sure not to lose mid after that by bringing mid tanks to block at mid pyre and using siege weapons to protect mid and attack inner gate. If the mid attack failed, you can always go back to back crit the gate.

    3- Going for inner crystal
This might give your team a fast win. Almost 2 or 3 min victory round. But its risky!

If you are going with left airship, you should not climb ladders if there are 3 or more enemy on the top. So check both ladders 1st before you climb. If you knew that climbing will fail, then go back crit the gate or go capture mid!

If you are going with the right airship, In case it passed castle siege (mid and inner), then you are lucky. If you knew that the ship will fail, then go back crit the gate or go for mid or just join the raid while dpsing the gate!

If you are going with both left and right airship, then left airship people should try to synchronize climbing left ladder with the arrival of right airship. This apply more pressure to defenders!

Just something to remember, in case any airship got destroyed, you can still use ladders!

If you managed to go inner, make use of the cannons inside! Don't let your enemy team use it. Also, call for your raid to climb to inner. It might be a victory!

The question now is, who should go air? The answer is simple, you should have a good combination of people that can fight together. This means healer, tank, dd and dps. For example: 1 Priest, 1 Lancer, 1 Sorc, 1 Arch and 1 Warrior. This group should know how to fight as one. This mean chain stuns, chain Kds, chain sleep and so on! If a group like this managed to go inner, its a certain win!

    Capturing mid pyre
Whether your raid is climbing outer ladders to capture mid or going throw an outer gate that they just broken it down, you should not pvp while moving to capture mid!
    What does this mean?
It means to focus on moving towards mid, for capturing it NOT for pvping for it. You should not kill enemy players while moving to capture mid, your focus should be to buy your raid time for them to be able to capture mid pyre! If you killed an enemy away from mid, while your team is moving towards it, then you helped that enemy to spawn at mid and make the job more difficult for your team! If you killed the whole enemy team and didn't capture pyre, they will re-spawn again and its like you have done nothing! The point here is, don't do stupid things that delay capturing mid! This include useless chasing, killing and pvping!
What you should do while moving towards mid is the following:
    - 1st Kill siege or use it! Siege is too OP, it can burn all your hope to capture mid if it is used well as well as, it can help you capture mid. If enemy uses it, then you should 1st focus on destroying it, then repair and use it. If enemy didn't use it, then its yours! You should use it.
    - If you think enemy siege will cause you troubles, then you can use the tanks that you blocked with at gate to shoot the cannons from the side your team is attacking. Notice that, those tanks can also shoot mid pyre itself, helping your team to push harder!
    - You should take care of your pyre, I mean north or south pyre! Let for example 2 or 3 players guard it. Healers are not allowed to guard pyre!
    - Focus on pushing and moving. Its critical you know how to push at mid! You do one hit, then move forward towards the pyre, until you reach it. You move forward, do some hits then go back! Your healers support you from behind. Don't let healers be in front of you! Don't let healers push alone! If you are a Sorc, its easy to push and split enemy players! Warb barrier is a great help here with the 3 evasions skills and a good use of kd trap, nova, sleep and stun! You just divide the enemy and conquer each of them! I used to do so a lot. Of course its reckless to jump inside as a Sorc with low defense, but trust me its damn fun! I noticed many healers in cs that helped me when I rush that reckless! You should push to destroy cannons then push to capture pyre, or do both at the same time! All the raid should focus on the objectives not the pvp! The objectives here is to kill/use cannons and capture mid pyre!
    - Lets assume, your raid managed to capture mid.
    What to do after that?
    Secure it.
    How?
By bringing mid tanks towards mid pyre to block and make it harder for enemy to recap. Also use all siege, tanks and cannons, to hit inner gate and protect mid from being recapped! Its good for a 4 players to stay at mid, in order to use siege and prevent the recap!

If you destroyed an outer gate before capping mid, and you lost mid then its no problem! You don't need mid pyre anymore! You got the time from it already and you have a direct path to inner gate, so focus on dpsing that gate. You might like to send a party to mid, in order to recap it or kill siege there, thats a good idea.

If you got mid via climbing ladders, then securing it and not losing it is a high priority. Leave 5 players at mid to defend it and use siege there!

    - Unable to capture mid
This might mean that, your team pvp-ed in the way to mid and killed some enemy players so they are pushing your team back! But anyway, a good solution for this, is to send only 1 party for mid and rest to inner gate. You buy time that way, distract enemy and have a good chance to capture mid! The main focus of this party is to keep the enemy busy at mid and kill their siege to help players DPS-ing inner gate.

    Breaking down inner gate
The difference from breaking down outer gate is that you don't have tanks to block at inner gate but you have backup tanks if you managed to capture mid and secure it. So, as usual, healers stay close to players who DPS the gate, pvpers keep your pvp reasonable, this mean don't chase, just focus on protecting DPS players and dpsing the gate when no one attack!
Its a great power, if you have siege at mid shooting inner gate too. This helps in protecting players who dps the gate, and cause additional damage to it!

    - Unable to dps inner gate
If you managed to capture mid, then use siege there to DPS the gate and protect those DPS-ing the gate. Also melee of the raid should focus their pvp near gate, in order to protect the dps and healers there!
If you didn't capture mid, then try to cap it now! If you failed it might be a lose!

    - Unable to pass inner gate entrance after its down
This might means that your people are afraid to die! Well, try ladders! Try to air! If Failed, try to bring a tank from mid or from outside the castle, put it in front of inner gate entrance and shoot, to KD defenders there! Never ever put the tank to block inner gate entrance! If you did so, then you are a traitor helping the defenders!

    Breaking down crystal
We have two cases here: your raid managed to break down inner gate or your raid managed to climb to inner! The 2nd case is covered in 'Airing' The only thing I want to add, is to try to secure a ladder, this means kill defenders at ladder top.
For the 1st case, your raid managed to break down inner gate. You should be smart while trying to pass inner gate entrance to crystal while 2 cannons are hitting you and defenders players are DPS-ing! For me, a Sorc, I do the following: get full HP, use mana barrier, go close to entrance, use warb barrier, move normally for about 1 sec to direct myself to a safe place, use teleport giant to teleport to that safe spot, If I got low hp, I try to distract enemy at entrance by hitting a hailstorm or doing some kd or sleep in order to help other raid members to pass to inner, if my hp is good, I continue moving towards a cannon, I use backstep towards the cannon when it shoot, I get close to the crystal, I try to kill the cannon then dps the crystal, I distract players that attack me with stun, kd, silence.. etc.
The point here is, you can do it! Just don't be afraid to die! Healers should use Kaia shield to help raid members to pass. Once you are in, your MAIN goal IS NOT the crystal, its the CANNONS! Kill the cannons and its an easy win! Cannons determine everything here! Kill both of them or use them and the crystal will become naked and free for you!
While trying to pass the entrance, leader should focus on scanning! You might got free ladders, which is easier to do. Just send 1 party for it! This party climb, pass, kill cannons and people at entrance can now pass easily!

Here, we concluded our talk about the attackers. Lets now move to the defenders. Lets go!

  • Defenders

    Defending inner ladders

In order to defend any ladder, you need 3 players at that ladder or 2 players and a tank (siege). If you have less than that number, then your inner is in danger and you might lose cause of that! Its critical to keep those ladders safe all the time! Its boring yes, but its important! Inner ladder people are the last defending line, after that come the crystal itself! So don't take it that easy! You should make sure its safe!

People at ladder should not waste their DPS. This means wait a second until you are sure your attack will land on the enemy then do it. Don't randomly place traps if you are a sorc or an archer, any class can avoid those traps! Think wisely which skill to use.

If the right air passes, make sure you use your evasion, kd, sleep, slow and stun skills! Try to reduce their HP as much as you can.

Also, take care from those people afk-ing at inner ladders! They are committing a terrible crime! Speak in raid chat if you noticed someone is afk-ing! Also, its better not to defend inner ladders if you have high ping!

    Using inner tank

Use it to defend against left air! Its the last siege that can shoot the airship. You can also use it to push attackers back at mid pyre, to help those defending mid and make it harder for the attackers to capture it. You can also use it to defend ladders in case, there are less than 3 people at a ladder.

I was thinking before about blocking inner gate with that inner tank, but tank can't go downstairs xD!

    Defending outer walls

The main focus here is that you shouldn't jump recklessly from outer wall once you see a tank moving or a pyre is being capped! Those might be a decoy! Make sure no one is climbing your outer wall, make sure which gate attackers are DPS-ing and then jump for it! Don't rush, or you will fall in a silly decoy!

    Defending outer gate

Your main focus here is to do as much damage as you can to the attackers that DPS the gate. If you can remove the tank block they did at gate, then do it! Don't focus much on capturing their pyre, its not that important. Wipe them at gate then go for their pyre! Focus on those dpsing the gate! Don't do random useless pvp! Distract them! Try to do max damage to many people with the same skill! For example, Sorc do Fireblast backcrit to those dpsing the gate. Mid siege should support you always, so go for it!

Never ever try to defend a gate from behind! DPS-ing from behind is the most stupid thing people do! You can't defend a gate from behind! Go out! Help those trying to win! Don't be a coward!

    Defending mid

The first thing you should do here, is to bring outer wall tanks near mid pyre. Use those tanks with the cannons already in mid to shoot attackers at gate. Once the gate is down, move those tanks fast to block with them at mid pyre. In general, there should be 4-5 people at mid. They should use siege and handle that tank block. So you use siege at mid to defend it from ninja and to shoot people at gate.

Siege also should handle airships. Don't rely on inner tank to do this job! You are 4 siege weapons! So you can do it better!

If gate is down, all players should return to mid. Focus on distracting enemy and don't be distracted! Use all siege to shoot them. Protect your own siege or it will be used against you. If the enemy got a siege, then destroy it. Don't move the tanks blocking at mid pyre away from that pyre, better to die inside those tanks. Cannons are more OP here, so use them always! Bombs will be good too, so think about them!

If mid is lost, don't panic! Don't try to recap it! Just go kill those enemy at inner gate and keep ladders safe. MID PYRE IS NO USE ONCE ITS LOST!

Starting from the update before the brawler patch, you should not only be defending, but also making time for your next round! This means, you only have the time of the attackers round to finish the job! Which also means that you might leave mid for them to capture and defend inner gate and ladders!

    Defending against airships

You should use all mid siege and inner tank to shoot airships! Inner tank can handle right air well, but need help from mid siege too! Mid siege can handle both left and right air, without the need of inner tank at all!

Something to notice, you can hit left airship with void pulse if you are a sorc or that long range kd skill of gunner that I don't know its name. So siege is not the only thing that can hit airships, ranged dps can too!

    Defending inner gate

As with outer gate, focus those who dps the gate! Healers stay near the gate, so that pvpers don't lose their focus! Try to distract enemy. KD, stun, sleep, slow, … etc all those skills are helpful so use them Do max damage to them!

Inner cannons should now contain players shooting the gate! Ladders should be safe!

Never ever try to defend a gate from behind! DPS-ing from behind is the most stupid thing people do! You can't defend a gate from behind! Go out! Help those trying to win! Don't be a coward! You can only go behind inner gate, if its HP is less than 30%, cause it will be down soon!

Defending crystal – when inner gate is down

When inner gate is down, your people should be 2-0-2 at ladders and the rest at inner! Inner cannons should ONLY FOCUS TO SHOOT THE ENTRANCE! Don't shoot those enemy dpsing the crystal! Just focus the entrance! If inner cannons destroyed, REPAIR IT fast! Inner cannons are the ultimate defending weapon here with the more DPS people at the entrance and the more melee at crystal! The reason is that, cannons shoot stagger! Getting staggered while going through the entrance and your team is dpsing it, mean RIP. Also care for ladders! I said 2-0-2, but u might need more than 2 at a ladder! Try to do max damage to those climbing ladders, so that they will be easy targets if they got to inner!

Defending crystal – when air or ladder pass

Don't ever leave the ladders free! Thats what the attackers need, a free ladder! If you are 2 at ladder then 1 go behind the people that passed and the other stay at ladder defending it and informing the other raid members that air or ladder passed! The other raid member should go fast to inner! Fastest way is to die and respawn at inner. Fastest way to die, is to use a bomb! Just go inner fast!

That should conclude the talk in this section. You should know that, those are not mighty rules or steps you should follow, those are just my thoughts and experience so far. So, you can modify them the way you want or drop them all! Don't get restricted by them, create your own experience! I really hope I didn't forget anything!

Now I will move to the more advanced strategies. The difference is that, it need team work and good timing! So, I put it away from the basic stuff!

  • 13- Advanced strategies and analysis
I will go with the same style as the previous section. Divide this section into two subsections: attackers and defenders. Tactics here depend on team playing, so if no team play, it will be useless!
    Lets start with attackers!

    Attackers

    Using a decoy

What is a decoy? Its a way to distract enemy and buy you some time! This is possible when you are going to an outer gate (The original gate) or climbing north or south ladder (Original direction). All you need to do, is to send a group of 5 people to the other gate (The fake gate) or direction (The fake direction). Those 5 should capture pyre there, move tanks and shoot the fake gate. They should also, pvp with the enemy coming towards them! If they cleared them, they should go for mid or inner. If they died, just respawn and help people DPS-ing the original gate or go climb with the rest of the raid.

One condition for this to work, TIMING! People at fake direction/gate should do their stuff fast. Move the tanks fast! Hit the gate fast! Then capture the pyre there! The rest of people in the original direction/gate should not move tanks or hit gate until the decoy people do hit the gate! So, the ping at the fake gate is the signal to start!

    Using tanks for climbing ladder

If you are going to climb outer ladder or inner ladder and you have doubts about the success of that, then use tanks to shoot the ladder top! You can bring outer tanks to inner or you can use mid tanks! Take care, you are an easy target when you use a tank!

    Using tank for inner gate

You can bring outer tanks to shoot inner gate with it. Also, if your team didn't capture mid, then try to steal a tank from there and use it for inner gate!

    The delayed air

This might cause a win after a desperate wipe at gate. You need to wait for a while. Make the enemy team think you give up by telling the people to go back to base. Don't stay in airship until you got good amount of people. Wait for the scan. Then go air! Rest of the people should try to kill mid cannons and climb left ladder!

    The risky attack

This attack depends on the delayed air thing with some safety margin. 10 people go air, rest to outer siege to shoot outer wall siege! If air passed, its a win with high chance. Otherwise, it might be a loss. You can still recover from the failure by capturing mid or back criting a gate!

    Using cannon tower

As I said before, most people don't use those cannons at all, but I guess they might be useful for defending the pyre u capped. So I don't know, think about it!

    Defenders

Guess I'm out of words for defenders! Almost all techniques are basics! Perhaps I mixed the basic stuff with the advanced stuff. Well, I believe people should know all those basic defender stuff! So I'm not going to split it. Might think about this section latter!

  • 14- Final words
Well, we reached here safely xD This take me huge amount of time.
Reading, re-reading, editing, reviewing, editing, reading, reviewing, editing …. etc.
I really hope this guide is useful. I would like to name it 'For CS Love' cause I really like cs.
Anyway, don't take this article as the state work of the art! No! Add to it! Make better than it! Judge it! You are free to correct me if I'm wrong. Just be a positive person and don't cause rage! I'm not aiming to gain anything by writing this, I only want to have more fun in cs, more competitive games, more excitement than chasing a DPS and his pocket healer and kill them both or being killed (I really like that xD!)!

I know that the article is so long, but it need to be so, otherwise it will be a rusty one. I will try to add some images latter on if I'm still able to edit the post! This might take a while cause of being busy in real life. So sorry about that!

So, good luck people and have fun o/

Special thanks to my dear friends:
    - ShadowDrake for helping me posting this <3
    - Solachan, for reviewing most of the post <3

  • This is a really impressive guide, well done. I will read through it later and share some experiences I've made the past two years since the beginning of CS. One quick thought about the crystals:

    Quote from Matrixo

I will not talk a lot about crystals, you should all know about it. CS is an equalized battleground. This means crystals matter! (I sometimes feel that item level and your current level matters too, but I don't know! If someone here know about both, please share your knowledge with us here.)

I feel like that, too (I've been critting Lowlevel Sorcs or Reapers for like, 110-120k with an Archer), but I really think it's only about the crystals you wear and the buffs you got. It's also worth noting, once you get Lv65, you want a brooch and a belt, it doesn't matter which one as long as you have one since it provides a lot of HP.

    Ultima | Lv70 Priest | ILv 498 | Yurian | Main
    Aeq | Lv70 Archer | ILv 466 | Yurian | Ex-Main
    Quest | Lv70 Zerk | ILv 470
    | Yurian | what a joke

    Game Over.

Thank you guys! Its actually too long and the lake of images makes it kinda boring. But I will try to add images latter, hope ShadowDrake don't bother helping me again xD
I tried to put all I know in this guide, hope I didn't forget anything ^_^

That will be nice to read ^_^ thanks you!

Well, yes boorch, belt and lvl 65 crystals in cs makes huge difference! Thats why low level raids are easily wiped! But what about item lvl :/ ?!

  • This is the most detailed thread I have seen in these forums.
However, most of newcomers in TERA have no idea forums even exist.
Cause if you leave it to players, they will most likely not reply seriously and just troll whoever new is asking for information.

If anything they should promote the use of forums in the game, but in the ~2 years I've been here never not once has that happened.
Since you got a moderator to help you, perhaps you can pitch in making forums more active, and not just for those that among other topics appreciate the occasional server&player bashing? :)

  • We will see how many cookies you are giving me ^_- Great guide from an awesome player(/person)

All the cookies if you wish xD, thanks alot <3

I was once a new comer in Tera. The 1st time I joined I was like, What is this O.O?! I tried to google what to do in cs and I didn't find a detailed guide but the information was scattered around. I still remember this answer on reddit, many thanks to the guy who wrote it.

Anyway, my point is I'm not targetting a specific set of people with this post! I mean I'm not targeting the new commers specifically! Its just a resource for those who wanna know how to cs properly! Those who already know the basics. A place where I show the deep meaning of saying 20/20 north gate, or capture mid for example! And a place where people judge me, correct me, add to what I mentioned or give alternatives to my thoughts!

Since you got a moderator to help you, perhaps you can pitch in making forums more active, and not just for those that among other topics appreciate the occasional server&player bashing?

Well, yes! I got a friend to help around! And thanks to him, I might have spent days trying to post this guide here or gave up on posting it, as you get 30 min cd after each time you post if no one replied to you!

About the forum thing, its not my target to make the forum active! The goal behind the copy rights I added above was to make the game itself active! So when someone not from EU see a guide, that is exclusive to EU forum, s/he might get a postive feedback about the community! I don't wanna go outside the main topic any more, I suggest you create a theard about this forum inactive issue you are talking about.
