In the last of our pre-patch previews we're going to take a closer look at TERA's new and improved functions and systems. Our servers will be upgraded with the new patch during regular maintenance on Thursday, 11th December. Each post in this preview series is linked to at the end of this news item, to make sure you're up to speed when the time comes!
The Vanguard Initiative – Daily Gaming
One of the most interesting innovations is the new "Vanguard Initiative" reputation faction. For completing daily quests you will receive reputation points, and you can unlock special buffs and rewards by logging in daily and completing quests.
The new Vanguard Initiative overview can be opened by pressing the "H" key or the new speaker symbol below the radar. Here you'll find any uncompleted quests as well as the current status of other bonuses.
Quests are divided into four colours: red is for the main quests in Fate of Arun, blue is for group/instance quests, green for dailies and yellow for PvP-related quests.
In addition to experience, gold and reputation points, completing blue, green and yellow quests allows you to collect Vanguard Badges (with a daily limit per quest type). There's a weekly bonus reward for having collected 20 Vanguard Badges, which can grant you additional gold, feedstock or crystal boxes containing new valuable level 65 crystals.
The reputation credits you earn can be exchanged for various chests and crystals from the Reputation Merchants in Highwatch – all of which makes completing the daily quests an attractive proposition!
There are also bonuses up for grabs for logging in every day. A mere three days per week and you can unlock additional buffs for every character on your account:
- Log in three days in one week to receive an effect which boosts your movement speed by 20 when not in combat.
- Log in five days in one week to receive an effect which increases your health by 5%.
- Log in every day in one week to receive an effect which increases your power by 6%.
Logging in daily doesn't only make you faster, it also grants you powerful bonuses!
Simpler Enchantment
Enchantment is also becoming easier with this patch. Equipment items can now be dismantled into feedstock for enchanting, which helps you to free up inventory slots. Clicking on the new button beneath the inventory will bring up this function:
This makes it possible to dismantle Tier 5 equipment into Tier 5 Feedstock and then use this feedstock for the enchantment of a Tier 5 item.
- white weapons produce 4, armor 3, shoes and gloves 2 feedstock
- green weapons produce 8, armor 6, shoes and gloves 4 feedstock
- blue weapons produce 24, armor 18, shoes and gloves 12 feedstock
- gold weapons produce 48, armor 36, shoes and gloves 24 feedstock
It's also possible to upgrade feedstock, for example by combining 6 Tier 5 Feedstock into 1 Tier 6 Feedstock. This makes it easy to recycle lower tier items into usable and more valuable feedstock.
Until now, items of different rarities had various chances of success when enchanting. White items had the poorest; gold the best. Now it will be
possible to choose how much feedstock to use with each enchantment. The more you use, the greater the chances of success!
Another new feature is the fusion of fine crystals. You can now fuse three random crystals into another random crystal. The menu is similarly opened via the new button in the inventory:

Furthermore, it is now possible to combine cabochons with a niveot structure into a more valuable crux. A structure like this can be bought from a Vanguard Initiative Reputation Merchant, for example!
This system is also used to improve fine niveots (crystals for level 65 equipment) into stronger, unbreakable and rare niveots!
These rare niveots are not destroyed when you die. They also have two effects which influence your stats. The Relentlessly Carving Niveot, for example, increases your HP and your crit rate simultaneously!
This fusion requires a Superb Niveot Structure in combination with three fine niveots:
Caution: These crystals are bound to your equipment. Once bound they cannot be used on other equipment items.
Simpler Teleportation
The last of the changes in our preview is the improved teleportation system. The new patch will make it possible to teleport from instance entrances into the nearest village and back again.
In the new zones you'll be able to teleport from every camp to every other previously discovered camp, or directly to the instances!
We hope you enjoyed this and the other previews in our series, and look forward to tearing up the new zones with you come Thursday!
