Fate of Arun: Bathysmal Rise

  • The last of the four new instances in Northern Arun is Bathysmal Rise, a temple sunken in water and designed for five players of level 65. The entrance gates can be found in Ex Prima, the northwestern region of Northern Arun.

Three brand new boss types await players, replete with all new attacks and tactics. There's also a mini-game interlude with a puzzle for you to solve. The first opponent you face after entering the instance is the poisonous sentinel Mephisis.

    1. Mephisis

    Powerful Groundpounder

An oft used attack, Mephisis slams her head against the ground twice causing giant rifts to open up. The first blow only deals damage to players in front of her, but the second has a larger radius and also hits players behind. Any player hit by the second shockwave will also be thrown away from Mephisis.

    Puddle of Poison

Mephisis targets a player and fires a stream of poisonous liquid at the player's position. Use your skills to dodge the poisonous jet before it lands. If you're hit, it will cause a large amount of damage, but no further negative effects.

    Claw Attack

Mephisis attacks left and right with her claws.

    Ring of Death

Mephisis retreats into her shell and deals damage to all players standing within the middle ring. Make sure you are either within the circle or far enough away to avoid being harmed.

    Spinning Claw Attack

Mephisis retreats into her shell and spins around quickly on the spot, slashing out with her claws and dealing major damage to everything nearby.

    Bathysmal Kamaras

Mephisis summons six little helpers which gradually move in and attack you.

    Mini-Event 1: Poisonous Gas

When Mephisis cries "The air's too fresh. Let's fix that!", she will destroy a pile of rocks and cause all of the players to be hit by a poisonous infection. The infection reduces maximum health by 8% per second, but can be removed by a healer. It is complemented by another effect, however, which distorts the image the players see. This cannot be removed, but dissipates after a few seconds.

This is repeated until the pile of rocks has been restored using the hotkey "F". A message will then occasionally appear stating "The rocks scatter again", after which you must quickly get to work repairing the rock pile again.

    Mini-Event 2: Chelonian Armor

When down to 30% health, Mephisis curls up inside her shell and defends herself with a shield for 10 seconds. This shield must be destroyed as quickly as possible, otherwise Mephisis will carry out an area of effect attack at the end of this phase which causes devastating damage to all group members.

The hallway linking Mephisis' area to the next boss' is populated by further underwater beasts such as jellyfish and starfish. After defeating them you'll reach Tantibus, the Harbinger of Terror.

    2. Tantibus

Tantibus is a gigantic anglerfish, the second powerful enemy causing trouble in the Pool of Fear.

    Turbo Spin

Tantibus swims around quickly and shoots forwards through the players. You need to dodge sideways as quickly as possible.

    Tail Swipe

Tantibus' tail glows and he carries out a powerful strike.

    Looping

Tantibus pulls off a flip and smacks against the ground with full force, causing damage to all players underneath him.

    Don't Look into the Light!

Tantibus attracts players with the light in his lure, carrying out an area of effect attack below himself and infected the players with Phrenic Slime.

    Primal Fear

When the message "Can you control your fear? I doubt it!" appears, Tantibus infects the group members with the negative effect "Primal Fear". This reduces constitution by 55% and the players lose control of their characters for 10 seconds as they run around the area in panic.

    Mini-Event 1: Phrenic Slime

Tantibus lays a layer of slime under a player which inflicts every player who walks over it with a negative effect. The effect reduces mana points by 16% per second and can only be removed by swimming in the water in the middle of the room.

    Mini-Event 2: Water Wall

When the message "Clean water fills the pool" appears, a wall of water is created in the middle of the room. This must be destroyed as quickly as possible, since Phrenic Slime cannot be washed off as long as the route to the middle is blocked.

  • 3. Unravelling the Mystery

After defeating Tantibus, there is a puzzle which must be solved in the following room. We won't spoil it for you, only sketch out the possible outcomes. You have a total of 1 minute 40 seconds to solve it. Depending on how quickly you manage it, there are different rewards:

    • Solve it within 30 seconds and you'll receive a Gold Treasure Chest.
    • Solve it within 60 seconds and you'll receive a Silver Treasure Chest.
    • Solve it within 100 seconds and you'll receive a Treasure Chest.
    • Fail to solve the puzzle within the allotted time and a Guardian of the
Heart will appear who you must defeat. Even then, however, there will be
      no Treasure Chest reward.

After the puzzle it's on to the final boss. Before you can take on Fulminar the Divine Nemesis, there are some cunning enemies that need to be eliminated first. There are Bathysmal Jinns which cannot be attacked, but which you must lock back up in their lamps by hitting the hotkey "F". The way is also barred by Voltirex the Thunderbolt Mechanoid and Narvuul Teralith!

    4. Fulminar

Flying pads carry you through watery vortices the final few metres on the way to Fulminar's platform.

    Effect: Electric Nimbus

Some of Fulminar's attacks apply a harmful effect which constantly removes 30% health from players in the direct vicinity. The effect's radius is only small for the first 3 seconds, but can be renewed for a further three seconds, twice increasing in range. If you are hit by the effect you should try to distance yourself from your teammates as much as possible. The effect cannot be cleansed by healers.

    Fulmisphere

During the fight, Fulminar will cast three random spheres at players. These spheres have their own hit points and carry out area attacks around themselves at regular intervals (as soon as the message "These might sting a bit" appears).

    Massive Chainsaw

Fulminar takes the giant spinning disc from his back and slams it down in a large area in front of him. This sucks players standing on the edge of the area into the middle, and any players hit are hit by the "Electric Nimbus" debuff.

    Bounce

Fulminar bounds into the air, releasing an electrical wave as soon as he lands again.

    Shock Wave

Fulminar spins his torso 180°, firing off a shock wave.

    Shock Ring

Similar to Mephisis' "Ring of Death", Fulminar unleashes a mid-ranged attack, where players should stand either close by or further away from Fulminar to avoid taking damage.

    Mini-Event 1: Buzz Mode

When the message "Let's cut you down to size!" appears, four Fulminar clones are summoned on the edge of the room which then zoom across it in a straight line, blades spinning, and deal lethal damage to any players hit.

    Mini-Event 2: Floodwaters

When the message "Water rushes into the chamber" appears, water floods into the room from all sides. Players standing in the middle of the room receive the least damage. When the water subsides again, the players are dragged back out towards the edge.

    Mini-Event 3: Lightning Shield

When the message "Fulminar prepares to strike a fatal blow" appears, Fulminar receives a lightning shield which must be quickly destroyed. If the group doesn't manage to break the shield in time, each player receives damage from Fulminar's attack and is sent flying. If the shield is successfully destroyed, Fulminar is stunned and will not attack for a few seconds.

    Mini-Event 4: Gift of Annihilation

When the message "I bring you the gift of annihilation!" appears, you must press forwards as close to Fulminar as possible. An electrically charged wall will appear around Fulminar shortly after the message which cannot be penetrated. Players outside of the shield will receive lethal damage.

Players within the shield must dodge the orange glowing areas to avoid being harmed.

If you manage to avoid all the orange areas successfully, you'll receive no damage. After three phases, Fulminar carries out another leap attack, where players should ideally be on full hit points to survive.

As long as you pay heed to these tactics, you should be able to wring the last gasping breath from this evil undersea monster's lungs. As a reward you receive etching and brooch designs, new and more powerful jewelry, as well as Discovery and Ambit equipment.

    Until next time!
