Welcome to the Player Mentoring Network. This is a little project I’ve been working on for a while now, in the name of encouraging some community spirit. The idea is to create a list of volunteer Mentors who’re willing to provide help and assistance to other players. A list of “players it’s ok to contact with questions” basically.

How to contact a Mentor
There are two main ways to get in touch with a mentor.
1 - Whispers.
First of all you should check if the player you’re trying to contact is available. To do this use the /inspect command (/inspect followed by the name of whoever you’re inspecting). If this brings up their character profile that means they’re online. If nothing happens they’re either offline or inside a dungeon or PvP battleground (in which case they’re likely too busy to properly answer your questions anyway). After that just type /w and their name followed by your message to message them.
2 - Mail.
If the Mentor you’re trying to get in touch with is offline you can use the in game mail function to message them instead. You can access the Mailbox by talking to a Banker and selecting Parcel Post. There is a somewhat small character limit though so multiple messages might be required.
How to become a Mentor
Becoming a Mentor is simple. Just respond to this thread with your character name, server and any areas of expertise / topics you’re not confident giving advice on. You’ll be added to the list when it next gets updated.
Rules
Rule 1: Be polite - This one’s self explanatory really. Mentors are helping out voluntarily so they’re not obliged to respond to you if you’re being a jerkass. This goes both ways of course, mentors should try to be as polite as possible.
Rule 2: No handouts - The point of this isn’t to encourage begging. Mentors are here to give advice not gold.
Rule 3: Mentors are volunteers - Mentors aren’t obliged to help you so don’t get mad if they’re too busy to come help you kill BAMs or clear a dungeon. You can certainly ask for help with these things but don’t expect Mentors to just drop everything to help you.
Rule 4: Don’t use friend lists to check if people are online (without permission). - Whilst adding someone as a friend is an easier way of checking if they’re online than using /inspect there’s a cap on the number of friends a player can have. Plus some people dislike getting randomly added by people they don’t know. If you want to add a mentor you’ve already been in contact with and they’ve given permission that’s fine though.
Rule 5: No posting other people’s names without permission - This list is meant to be voluntary so don’t use it as a method of indirect harassment. If you get added to the list unwillingly get in touch and your name will be removed.
Rule 6: No superstition - Mentors shouldn’t be spreading unsubstantiated rumours (eg: Enchanting whilst wearing an aviator cap on top of the mountain behind Kanstria at 2 in the morning increases your success rates). You’re welcome to believe that if you like but don’t pass it on as fact.
Tips
1 - The areas of expertise listed aren’t absolute. Feel free to ask questions about things outside those topics. This also applies to the things Mentors “can’t” help with. It’s not that they can’t so much as they’re outside that player’s areas of expertise so they probably can’t provide a decent answer. You can still ask but don’t expect a detailed explanation.
If you have any questions or suggestions just post them here or contact me in game.
