    What is role play, anybody?

Since you're asking and we're on the interwebz here it goes:
Incomming quotes from Wikipedias page about MMORPGs!
    (On social interactions)
MMORPGs almost always have tools to facilitate communication between players. (...)
In addition, most MMOs require some degree of teamwork for parts of the game. These tasks usually require players to take on roles in the group, such as those protecting other players from damage (called tanking), "healing" damage done to other players or damaging enemies. (...)
    (On roleplaying in MMOs)
Most MMORPGs provide different types of classes that players can choose. Among those classes, players are encouraged to roleplay their characters, providing rules, functionality and content to this end. Some MMORPGs offer "roleplay-only" servers that prohibit interactions to other players among characters for those who want to immerse themselves in the game in this way.
For example, if a player wants to play a priest role in his MMORPG world, he might buy a cope from a shop and learn priestly skills, proceeding to speak, act, and interact with others as their character would. (...)
Wikipedia even has a page about roleplaying and role-playing games.

And here is a definition of the word:
    role-play
       /ˈroʊlˌpleɪ/ [rohl-pley]
    –verb
    1.
to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), esp. in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction

That's exactly why I' asking this! I can't understand how there can be a RP server for an MMO!

Personally Ive had some great experience with MMORPG roleplaying although it's very limited. I would probably not roll my main character on a RP server if there was one, but I would perhaps create an alt.
There is some great communities for MMO-RP that holds all kinds of events and does awesome stuff (such as creating playermade villages, "racing", treasure hunting and the like).

A RPserver would help the roleplayers to create a community that would fit them better, since everyone (or most of them) knew about the common rules for that server and it would be less players that would greif them or somehow distrub/crash their events.

  • Glad to see pvp is winning, at least for now.

So to make it clear... a RP-PvE server will have "racing" events like Need for Speed and a RP-PvP server will have "racing" like "Death Race" (movie) ! :p Simple!

  • If it's anything like Lineage 2, then PvP all the way.

  • if anything like lineage 2 then tera will fail as all people will see it as is a pay to play lineage clone

  • if it's what you say it is, then RP servers must be eliminated asap!

......The One you love to hate......

10/31/2011 - Final day of Flawless Shojin, best of luck.

Final day of glorious CM "Silvanoshi" and CR "Sealath", best of luck to both of you

    who's next?

  • RP-PVP, since RP servers tend to draw attention for a more mature playerbase.

  • PvP FTW!
I think I could create a char in the RP server only if my PvP server is down :)

  • Need test Tera gameplay 1st. >.<
Unless pvp system in Tera is awful, which i doubt, then i'll play on both PvE and PvP servers.
PvE when i'll wanna relax, grind hard (yes, i actually do like grinding, at least if it leads to anything and not just to high numbers on stats screen ) or just play in slow pace.
And PvP when i'll be in mood to kill some random ppl (guilds sucks, random PK all the way ^^ ) and actually have some challenge.

  • Well, I enjoy every single type of gameplay (listed in the poll, ofc). If I had to reason why I like every single sort of gameplay (though the most boring of them is PvE), I'd say:

PvE: I'm alone and I can't find anyone to party with. Well, I'll just go grind some mobs and get some stuff, or I'll try to explore that dungeon I found the other day.

PvP: I enjoy being a PK, so I usually get dagger-type PC's, I sneak behind people and kill them^^. Although, I just kill lonseome bored people not actively playing (like a high lvl on a noob-midlvl area).

RP-PvE: Being in a party and doing my job while the other do theirs, helping each other at the same time is one of the greatest joys I have, it's fun and you get great rewards for doing so (not items, but new friends, guildmates, etc.). And you can go to extremely hard and dangerous places with them, wich while alone you wouldn't even dare enter.

RP-PvP: The second most boring thing, killing in group...unless it's a tournament, it kinda sux, so I usually avoid it. Though I enjoy going to an area ocupied by a party/group/guild and concquer it with my comrades, it's fun!

    The best of these, I'd say are RP-PvE > PvP > RP-PvP > PvE.

    This is my humble opinion^^.

  • With only PVE it'll get boring i guess. So i Choose PVP :P

Sounds like an small korean boy which have enough hate for all o_O

    Hahaha >_>
Korean because i like grinding and hate for all because i do like to RPK? ^^
Well, it's not like a care etc, but i assure you that i'm not korean, i'm not small (25 soon) and i don't hate everyone (i'm not very friendly either tho), really, i just like solo style gameplay, even in mmos. Yes, it's a bit weird, i know, but that's how i play to every mmo and i love it. ^^

  • PvE, I'm tired of being killed as I do my own business. Zones with controlled PvP could be interesting
